Suzanne Lee spoke very very well, and I was genuinely impressed.

She opened with, "most people here are probably not going to vote for me." What was the need for the negativity there? Total inferiority complex going on which doesn't instill confidence.

She also talked about supporting the legalisation of cannabis and yet said she was in favour the SU's anti-drugs campaign. She needs to accept the obvious conflict of interest or, better yet, pick one side over the other. The candidates were all disappointing this evening, for the reasons mentioned previously.

Thought the debates went well tonight. De Brún came out strongest in the Pres. Even with the RON campaigner, Sam still won education. Welfare was close and in C+C, I thought Suzanne was the best.

She knows she wont get elected, but she also knew that almost everyone in the room was friends with Emma or Lacey.

I also like how she mentioned Boards <3

    Thoughts on hustings tonight?

Highlight for me was Suzanne Lee's major change of tone when compared to the Lawsoc debate - and it made her come across far far better.

Also, Lacey became unstuck - but was the person asking the questions not biased? He was taken off the mic after the C&C people had spoken . . .

Oh and lets not forget Paddy Ryan making an absolute fool of himself (and the Edu RON campaign). What was he thinking?!

Basically he put himself forward as the "face" of the RON Education campaign and accordingly Belfield FM allowed him the opportunity to put a question to the candidate from the floor. However instead of asking a question from the floor he took centre stage on the podium and began to ramble and rant in an incoherent manner - he definetly came across as a guy with a hidden agenda. As a former Campaigns & Communications officer you would think he would be prepared enough to actually be able to string a sentence together. Very embarrassing and cringey to watch to be honest.

By the looks of it Geoghegan's team were not very impressed at all . . . but then again not many present were impressed with the performance in the first place. A number of people walked out when Paddy took to the stage.

I would have thought that it was pretty clear that there was a format with the question askers, and it wasn't a case of who wants to ask the next bunch.

The inclusion of Paddy Ryan would have made for a better debate if he wasn't so weak, but in the end it probably worked in Sam's favour.

Suzanne Lee was excellent last night. Was at Thursday's nights hustings where she acted the maggot. Total change of attitude and some have decent ideas aswell.

TBH: The hustings last night were pretty awful. C&C was boring, Education was ok and Welfare wasn't great. Took a break during it while the presidential debate, so can't really say how that was.

Deleted some speculative rumormongering about who's going out with who.

    Thoughts on hustings tonight?

I was expecting a bigger crowd.

One of the Welfare candidates, I think it was Lorna Danaher, mentioned self defence classes. There are small martial arts clubs struggling to attract new members each year, with at least two that don't have competitions and are purely self defence. I think it would be better to encourage people to train regularly.

What was the controversy that Brendan Lannoye referred to when they were asked about drug testing the SU?

Anyone know if Belfield FM are going to making a podcast of the debate? Wasn't able to go last night. Likewise, wasn't able to get onto the Belfield FM live stream last night, damn you technology! :D

Brendan Lacey reacted very poorly to a question posed by Dáire Brennan of Belfield FM at this evening's radio election debate. Upon being asked, "what have you done in your role as Sports Officer this year?" Lacey attempted a reply which totally avoided the question and when he was prompted to stay on topic he became quite aggravated. He shouted over Brennan claiming he had organised this years RÁS and then said "thank you," prompting a ripple of applause from his supporters in the audience.

When he attempted to continue on a rhetorical spiel he was reminded that the RÁS had taken place last year also and was then asked what he had done this year. At this point Lacey became quite angry asking, "what do you mean, what have I done. I'm taking this very personally." Lacey's demeanor was extremely aggressive and totally unjustifiable. His attitude screamed of pretentiousness. The question was very simple and had he actually done anything this year then this listener cannot see why a simple and honest answer could not be given without attempting to intimidate the host. He has certainly lost my vote and it looks like another election where I will be voting RON.

Agree with this, he came across as totally arrogant and pretentious. Seemed like a confident speaker initially but certainly won't be getting my vote with his attitude.

Ask Darcy's campaign manager himself, he works in MCD.

MCD or Festival Republic? Also the role of the job? Sure you can work putting up fences and say your working for MCD

It's for fun as much as anything.

Last year there were about 100 people from the campaign teams who spent the entire day in the Astra hall for the count.. I'd say someone will tune in who cant be there.

Something needs to be addressed here. She said she is for the legalisation of cannabis but went on to say that if the student body was at a general concensus in favor of the SU's or any other anti-drugs campaign she would be in favor of it. She said she would give voice to issues that the student body as a whole are interested in. So, no conflict of interest necessarily, she believes in one thing, the student union believes in another. It's yet to be seen how the students themselves will feel towards this issue and when that is judged she will 'fight' in favor of them and leave her own agenda aside.

Oh well. I thought the SU was going to be different this year ...

... I hear a group of people in NUIM have set up a seperate SU called "Maynooth Socialist Student's Union" (MSSU). A revolution of sorts.

Maybe UCD should have the same - a "UCDSSU", getting back to what a SU or any Union for that matter should stand for.

    Via La Revolution!!

She wants one thing, which is illegal first and foremost. She wants something which has never received substantial support from the student body, whatever they may do in their private time. There is a conflict of interest in my eyes. Anyway, all superfluous debate now as she came paddy last!

Can you give us info about what round they're on? Has anyone been eliminated/transfers distributed? Interested to see where the transfers go to. Thanks.
