    Hi all,

Viewing a house this evening that is €1000 per month, its a small 2 bedroom house in Donnycarney. From the pictures I quite like it already and Im not really the type of person that haggles, other half however is going in guns blazing.

Is there any point ? Also its an open viewing and im afriad haggling will reduce our chances of getting it. (maybe thats the point of an open viewing ?)

    Any advice ?

    Thanks

Great post here recently. Despite what this says though if your looking at a place that is truly popular and other people are interested there will be zero room to move, you simply offer asking and hope you come across as better tenants than your competition.

    There's always a point - if you don't ask you won't get.

See how many people are there at the viewing, once you have actually seen the house decide if you think it's worth €1000 a month (sounds a lot for what's presumably an old, small, council house in Donnycarney) and don't believe the agent when they say 'oh there are three other people going to put offers in and they will pay €1000'.

A house is worth (selling or renting) what someone will pay for it - if you offer €900 you may get it for that if you give the impression you are going to stand firm on that price, and if you don't get it, there are hundreds of other properties out there.

Do not get emotionally attached to property when viewing it.

Do not get emotionally attached to property when viewing it.

    Indeed.

Not only is there the huge possibilities of un-forseeable problems, but any such problems would seriously decrease the houses worth, leaving you with further regret about the rent rate.

Just because you see other people viewing it, doesn't mean they'll want it. Some people view many properties before picking one.

Have you looked anywhere else? It's always a good idea to see a few options to compare and not get focused on just one place.

if they want 1k, offer 900. the worst they can do is say no and you can pay the 1k if you really want it.

we got about 150 pm off on our place from the original price

usually when they say you can haggle, they expect it in this day, so i would say they put in the top price, and they will accept at say 50 less
