Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Problem with getting Sky to install

    Hi folks,

I decided to order Sky TV for my 4th floor apartment a couple of days ago, they rang me back yesterday to confirm the order. When I told the SKY installer that my apartment was on the 4th floor, he stated that he could not go ahead with the installation as they cannot install above 30 feet.

He suggested that I contact an independent installer in order to proceed. My concern is that I will have to pay big bucks for an independent installer despite the fact that there is no danger in setting up the SKY minidish as it would be placed freestanding on the large South-Facing balcony of which there is internal access from my sitting room i.e. it is simply a matter of walking onto the balcony and placing the dish there and then working on the connections into the sitting room - I cannot understand the installer's reluctance to execute such a straight-forward install.

I am also aware that SKY have a special heights team which he did not mention, perhaps they would be a better bet in that i would not have to pay the €€€ to the independent guy.

There is no shared dish provision in my apartment complex so hence my requirement for an individual free standing Sky dish in my balcony (I would prefer not to attach it to the wall).

Can anyone advise on my best course of action when I recontact Sky this week as the sooner I can get this installed the better but I can see nothing but frustration ahead.

    Any comments would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

My initial reaction to this firstly is that its not a straight forward install as you might imagine as it will need some type of mount to fix to the floor of your balcony, sky installers simply do not carry this type of equipment.

As for paying "big bucks" (if this is true) to an independent installer bear in mind that unlike sky, the installer gets no ongoing revenue stream.

I'm sure if you explained your set up to your local sky independent you might be pleasantly surprised at the cost.

When I recently went to upgrade my Sky, the customer service advisor (albeit she was based in Scotland) told me that they do not have a special heights team in ROI.
