Any advice on where I could pick up a couple of dark glass demi-johns? I have a green one which a fellow brewer lent me a year back and I'd like to be able to return this and buy a spare one for myself. thanks.

Someone was saying there were some in the charity shop in rathmines - that was a while ago though, so possibly gone.
Any particular reason you're looking for demi-john specifically rather than a plastic bucket?

    Thanks Phelix & Ken.

Why demi-john? I guess I've just got used to using it - its also solid and heavy which with the kids in the house makes it less likely to get knocked about when they do venture under the stairs.

I only use my djs for cider, cos I leave it a good few months, and only make 5 litres.
you can get 5 and 10 L buckets too, they're light, don't break and are easy to clean, much easier than djs. cheaper too . I'd say get one and see....

Cheers for the info. I guess I may have to settle for the buckets - any links to ones you'd recommend??? Unfortunately I can't hold onto my mates demi-john for ever and my new years resolution was to at least brew twice a month this year :p

My GF got one for me in the The country cellar on patrick st, dun laoghaire awhile ago, since your in Dun Laoghaire that might be worth a look if it's still around. I've also gotten some from the Blackrock market, both have needed a good clean before use.

Other that that I've bought some from http://www.grapengraindublin.com/ and http://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/ I see the homebrewcompany have plastic ones now, they might be lighter but they're less likey to cut deeply if you do manage to break a glass one.

A bucket is still a good option though, much easier to clean out.
