    Hi!!
I have a very sick cat... Shes not eating properly and vomiting. First I thought its fur-balls, so I gave her DEFUR paste to help her pass it. After 3 days she got very sick, seemed in pain, so i went with her to see a vet.
They checked her fever, tooth, and belly. The vet gave her painkiller shot, antibiotic shot, also gave me pills so cat can continue treatment at home. But this vet didn't know whats wrong with her. I paid smth about 50 euro.
After painkillers she improved for short time, than during Christmas she was still vomiting, she had better and worse days. She was eating just enough to survive. So 03 January I went to same vet again. They kept cat for 3.5 hours to make blood tests etc. I paid 195 euro to get a pack of antibiotics and steroids (to help her get back to eating) and I got no diagnose. They just said she have high glucose.
How come i paid for neutering and chipping my cat 140 e. Now almost 200...
I am really thinking to change a vet. :mad:When I was collecting my cat there, the lady complained about my cat behavior  Come on!! its an animal, cat will fight when feels in danger! ITS THIS LADYS JOB!!!!!!!
I dont know what to do
I am just sure I have to insure my cat...

    Sorry for my English :p

Yeah I changed vets too, to one which has a great reputation and was recommended by several different sources. Doesn't have a fancy facility like our previous local vet practice but the difference in caring attitude, depth of knowledge and quality of service was unbelievable - best thing we ever did!

I have to agree with the other people who advise changing vet or getting a second opinion.
Vomiting in cats needs to be diagnosed and treated URGENTLY as they can de-hydrate very quickly and die.
It sounds like it's something much more serious than hairballs and with the mention of high glucose, it could be something as life-threatening a diabetes which will need to be diagnosed as soon as possible so that medcation can be administered. And if it is diabetes, your cat will most likely be on medication for the rest of it's life.
Pet insurance, in most cases, will only cover new diagnoses after the policy begins and only in exceptional circumstances and with an increased premium will cover pre-existing conditions.

Where abouts do you live velone? People on here will happily recomend a good vet, near your home, where you can take your cat for a second opinion. I would advise doing that immediately.

We had an ex-feral cat who hated the vet and always had to be handled with the chainmail gloves but never once did either the vets or the nurses complain about her behaviour as they understand that cats will lash out when they're scared or feel threatened. From what I can see from your post, you need to change your vet immediately to a practice where they specialise in treating small animals and have a more compasionate staff.

Please let us know how you get on.

    Hi again!
Sorry for not responding so long. I wanted to be sure about that vet to post any details online.
I am from Galway, and that vet clinic was Glenina Vets on Dublin Rd.
I am going to change it for Briarhill vets. Its even much cheaper (sample price 90e-glenina 70e-Briarhill for the same thing)

So I went for a second glucose test yesterday. Sugar was still up - 10, but dropped from 12.8. The vet said cat is rather not diabetic, as she don't drink too much.
Another things made me very worry about the clinic.
!!! 3 Appointments - 3 different vets  sometimes they wasn't sure what is Yoshi treatment, and whats the problem.
!!! no diagnose, just tests and telling me what she isn't sick with.
!!! Employees seemed not reacting for the cat suffering. (picking up my cat by holding her belly, she obviously had a belly pain)
!!! The vet was aware of Yoshis high glucose might been caused by stress, but anyway he examined her belly first - causing pain and stress, after that he checked glucose. Shouldn't it be done opposite way???

I got a Skype contact to a friends friend, he is a vet in London clinic. So I consulted everything with him. He said that after such a long time, my cat supposed to have an x-ray of her belly to check whats going on in there. I think its a reasonable solution. So I made an appointment at Briarhill clinic for an x-ray on monday.

I was at the Briarhill clinic on Monday, Yoshi is seriously sick. Vet said the next 48 hours will show if she can make it. :( They made some extra tests and they pretty sure its TRIADITIS. Shes getting a drip now. She will be hospitalized for next few days. How Glenina clinic vets could keep my cat sick for such a long time..? If she would be 10 years old she probably would die by now.

    Hey velone,

So sorry to hear about poor little Yoshi. Triaditis is one of those awful things where there are several things wrong at the same time. I don't want to be maudlin but treatment is not always successful or the prognosis good as far as I know but cats have been known to get through it.
All you can do is keep everything crossed for the poor little girl and be glad that you found a vet who knows their stuff and who will give her the best treatment possible. The less said about the other vet, the better, and now you have to concentrate on helping Yoshi fight her way through this. Hopefully she's a fighter and I'm really hoping that you get good news but please keep us informed.

Thats really terrible. There is a Vetinerary Council of Ireland if you want to make a complaint about the first vets you went to: http://www.vci.ie/Disciplinary/

However it seems to be a fairly difficult process to make a complaint and it would be difficult to prove the vet was not competent.

However - I think making a written complaint would be useful so that they are under pressure to improve their practice.

I'm sure you don't want to be bothering with this now when your poor cat is so sick. I hope Yoshi gets better soon.

That's a cute video of Yoshi and I'm so glad she's finally getting the proper care. I can't afford much but I've sent you a small donation. If everyone on here sent a small amount, it would add up very quickly.
If you're on facebook, post your video on there too and maybe it will help with the fundraising.
Please let us know you Yoshi's getting on with her treatment and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for her.

Velone - I think you are a super guy! Apart from me being worried about Yoshi, your love for her and your commitment to helping her recover has warmed my heart and I wish to thank you for being such a wonderful person:)
I did the same for my cat, Mog, who lived to be over 15 years of age. I spent thousands on him over the years (which I didn't have!) but would have done anything in the world for him. He will be three years gone on February 11th - I miss him every day. But I feel I always gave him the best care he could possibly have and my vet, thankfully, was exceptionally good.
Again, Velone, well done to you. I wish you and Yoshi every happiness and good health. Please let us know how she gets on!

Shazanne - Thank You very much!
I am sorry to hear about Mog, but I am sure he had a great life beside such a carrying ''mum'' like you.
I just think its something we have to do! I learned yesterday how to make a movie for YouTube and how to create donation website. Now I know how creative I am when there is a need.
Oh... and if anyone here needs something like that i can help as well :)
I will let you know asap hows Yoshi feeling today.

    Hi Velone,
Are you sure your not over reacting regarding this vet. In fairness you left your cat 3 days before you brought it to the vet, and again waited till after xmas before you went back to the vet. Not every illness is that straight forward to diagnoise! Your acting like this vet abused your cat. It wasn't the vet that made your cat sick in the first place so stop blaming. If you don't like your vet just change to another, you don't need to bad mouth people on a public forum. It is unfortunate in big clinics that you dont see the same vet every time. But people get wise to this and ask when their own vet is working. And yes I've been going to Glenina for years!!!
