Volvo v40 01 Lights Problem

Hi Im just looking for opinions as I aint no mechanic!

    I have a 2001 volvo v40 Estate which has a gremlin.

The driver side front dipped bulb blew last week, I changed that and it works fine.

At some point shortly this after my rear brake and position lights have failed.

I went to the bulbs and fuses and ALL of them are intact and fine which indicated to me a deeper problem.

I googled a bit a started to read about something called the Central Electronics Module -

    http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=67584

I think that this could well be the source of my problems.

Is there anything else that I can check on the car do you think?

The cost is high through a garage to replace this it seems.

I can find one CEM on ebay but the model number 30896700 is higher than my part 30896698, I wonder would this work in my car?

    Any opinions on this?
    Thanks

    Jelly 292,

The S40/V40 CEM problem is common enough and I've seen faulty headlight switches shorting out the CEM.
If you PM me your VIN I can get you the correct part number (Volvo part numbers supersede all the time,so it can be tricky to find a matching secondhand part).

Where are you located? There was a thread here about an independent Volvo specialist around Dublin...

If you are located in Dublin there is a good Volvo specialist now open in Clontarf called Scully Autocare: http://www.scullyautocare.ie/

Well I sourced a CEM from a scrappies and installed it but its made no difference at all, the faults are exactly the same.

I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, matbe a short somewhere would do this and its not the CEM at all, would anyone have an opinion?
    Garage time I think!
