Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Same here .

Gerrards role/position is crucial and Johnson needs to be 100% improved .

right, this is just a friendly warning post to all.

firstly, yes, there'll be at least 2 mods on today for this.

but also, and more importantly for all of you, there will be absolutely ZERO TOLERANCE in terms of what happens in here.

we will not hesitate to hand out infractions and bans to people acting the douche and going against the charter.

    NO EXCUSES.

the secret to it is this, it's quite simple, but absolute genius really...'think before you post'....and you'll be absolutely fine.

also, if it gets out of hand, we'll have no hesitation in closing the thread for a while, so don't ruin it for everyone. and if it does close, anyone opening a new thread will be banned.

    thank you.

empireofthekop twitter Joe Cole is out (injured)

Not much of a loss going on his form this season. Wonder who will take his place on the bench.

    Edit - Here we go.
Kenny Dalglish has named his first Liverpool team since his return to the dugout for this afternoon's FA Cup third round clash with Manchester United. Listen live online from 1.25pm GMT.

Glen Johnson is absent because his wife is in labour, while the likes of Daniel Agger, Martin Kelly and Fabio Aurelio return for what is bound to be a memorable day at Old Trafford.

The team in full is: Reina, Aurelio, Kelly, Agger, Skrtel, Meireles, Lucas, Maxi, Kuyt, Gerrard, Torres. Subs: Gulacsi, Kyrgiakos, Wilson, Shelvey, Poulsen, Ngog, Babel

As a United fan I would like to see some fringe players in the starting 11 but really hope the inclusion of Evans is wrong.

18 months ago I saw him as long term replacement for Rio and looked ready to step in. Since then he's gone backwards so far that I really don't want him anywhere near the staring 11.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,465 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    Apparently the team is:

Kuszczak, Raf, Evans, Rio, Evra, Giggs, Carrick, Fletcher, Nani, Chico, Berbatov.

Not at all happy with Evans playing, he has been an utter liability all season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

    Is Vidic injured or something?

it's been a long time since Agger and Skrtel together in central defence.

that's potentially our best defence IMO.

    about time.

oh, and absolutely shocked Smalling isn't playing and Evans is.

a bonus given their respective form.

Anyway, Berbatov and Hernandez up front sounds good to me if that's the way it'll be. The little pea will be a threat in the air from set pieces where Liverpool are weak.

Very pleased with that Liverpool team, hope it's indicative of how Kenny intends to play in the league in terms of formation and inclusion of Agger and Aurelio (when fit obviously!).

Good to see 442 from United, should be a good, open match.

I'm not optimistic if I'm honest. Liverpool have their best team out. Definitely wish Rooney was playing.

The only explanation seems to be that SAF views Smalling as his Rio replacement and Evans as his Vidic one.

Really worried about Evans playing though. :(

Good to see we're sending out a weakened team, we really need to rest players for big games. Our reserves are more than good enough to win this.

ITV and I believe Setanta, better commentry on ITV though, plus Im expecting a total Kenny love in which should be fun.

In theory United should win but its a cup game and at the moment Liverpool are like a wounded animal and thus likely to be very much up for it.Im not overly bothered about the result truth be told however Im hopeful of a cracking old school cup tie.

Very happy with that starting XI. For me that is the strongest starting XI available at the club right now.

Granted Johnson is out because of his wife being in labour, but I do think that Kelly is a far better defender than Johnson, plus he does he fair share of getting forward when called for.

Aurelio at LB compliments a ball player like Maxi very well. Aurelio is technically very good coupled with being a good defender, and Maxi has to benifit from having such a technically sound player linking up with him. Far moreso than if he had the very average Konchesky behind him.

Lucas and Meireles in the centre has been our best midfield pairing this season, and with them there Gerrard will be able to roam pretty much at will without having to worry about what is happening in the centre of the park.

Man Utd still have to be clear favourites for this game, but I think we will see a much better Liverpool performance today than we would have if the thankfully gone Hodgson was still stumbling his way through the job.

Would be over the moon with a draw today and a decent performance, and then going in hard in our next home game, which is the Merseyside Derby. Yep I do know we have an away game inbetween.

and Jonny Evans is in the form of his life isn't he?

Torres with one leg would have a field day against Evans

Aurelio is a huge weakness in the Liverpool team imo, I think Konchesky is miles better than him. And no I'm not saying Konchesky is anywhere near world class by the way or anything like that.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

It's been ages since Evan's has played, lets not all get our knickers in a twist! And remember that he's actually still a great player, and more than capable of putting in a good performance.

It's a shame about Rooney but ya have to feel that Chico fully deserves his place on the starting line up.
