Your clubs low points of 2010

It's easy for us all to defend and praise our club about how great it is and god help the person who arrives in a superthread to highlight our downfalls....

But i'd be interested to hear what people believe were the low points of 2010 for their club.

For me, as a united supporter there are 3:

    1) Losing to chelsea last year really confirmed that we were not going to win the league

    2) Hargreaves: The surprise and joy to see him starting the wolves match, it had my heart pounding, then 3 mins later you could actually feel the depression that fans and players felt in the stadium

    3) Valencia: Losing him was a real kick in the nuts. I really feel he has been a big lose. cant wait for him and rooney to pair up again.

Losing Jose Mourinho and hiring Rafa Benitez.

Sligo Rovers - none really :) You could say stuttering early league form but that would be nit picking

    Hasn't been many, 2010 was our best year in living memory. But;

    1) Losing the FA Cup semi-final to Portsmouth at Wembley was farily shíte.

    2) Losing 4-1 to Arsenal at the Lane wasn't great either.

Last 5 minutes of the last game against Fingal.

    And the week afterwards.

for united - one word - rooney.

rooney entered 2010 and progressed to March with the world at his feet. potential world footballer of the year, passing 30 goals (40 including englands previous 6 or 7 games), united top of the table and a seemingly less than difficult progression to the CL final.

heading into injury time, united were holding on for a 1-1 draw, which would have been a great result. rooney attempts to win a ball, that sees him get injured. 5 seconds later, united concede and that goal costs us a semi place. and rooney for the rest of the season.

that injury, subsequent injunction and breaking story about his off-pitch antics with ladies of the night, plus the then whole contract saga, saw a fall from grace, not seen in many a year at the top top level.

had he not got injured and then stayed focused, we would IMO have won the league and at least got to a 3rd final in a row. top of the table and rooney has bearly impacted, says there is plenty of room for him to shine again in 2011.

    Tottenham.

The FA Cup semi-final defeat was devastating at the time.

The ongoing speculation about a move to the Olympic stadium is hanging over us like a black cloud.

Apart from that it was a fantastic year on the pitch with plenty of high points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,476 ✭✭✭✭Ush1

Lyon - Despite making it to the CL semi final it really was an embarressing display which papered over the cracks of Puels reign of terror.

Turning the best and most talented attacking squad in France into "workers" who can't even keep clean sheets anyway.

Arsenal 1-3 Man Utd at the emirates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,251 ✭✭✭massdebater

Chris Hughton sacked the way he was.

Alan Pardew as his replacement didn't get rid of the sour taste from my mouth either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

    The Bi-Annual Drogba buttfúcking.

Throwing away a two goal lead to Spurs.

    The Messi buttfúcking.

Barcelona/Xavi/Messi/Puyol/Laporta/Rossell and their constant spouting of Cesc's 'Barca DNA'.

The idiocy displayed in our final three Champions League group games this season after a similair situation a few years back.

Eduardo leaving, it had to be done, but sad to see him go after he showed what he could have been.

    RVP/Cesc/Vermaelen and their continuous injuries.

Our compelte inability to play United/Chelsea and get a result, or even look like getting a result.

Hughton sacking, don't need to elaborate any more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,224 ✭✭✭DH2K9

Arsenal getting knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona. Not so much a low point, more a footballing lesson. For the first time in a long time we were out-passed by a superior team. Could stand us in good stead when we play them again in 2011. Then again maybe not:(

The worst of the worst was probably losing 4-1 at home to West Brom.

    But also;

    Losing on penalties to Brentford.

Drawing 0-0 with Fulham and slumping to the bottom of the table after 6 games.

Not been a tremendous season for Everton so far.

Shamrock Rovers: Only the loss to Fingal really. Also getting beaten at Dalyer. Losing the cup final wasn't so bad because of the way the season had ended.

United: Losing the title to them, the continuing debt issues and the knowledge that this is arguably the weakest Ferguson team since 93/94.

    Replacing Rafa with Roy

Surrendering at Stoke, Everton, Blackburn......well pretty much just surrendering!

    Liverpool.

    easy.

the moment i knew he was completely out of his depth (don't turn this into a Roy/Liverpool thread) :)

(ignore the shíte at the bottom of the vid, it's only mildly amusing. just concentrate on what he's swearing, and unless he used the name 'Northampton Town', you'd have thought we played an established PL club)

Replacing Martin O'Neill with Gerard Houllier

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,697 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Maybe not a lowpoint, but the last 10 minutes in Bray were almost eye-scratchingly unbearable too. The other 80 minutes were not that much better...

We didn't replace him. MON walked out, leaving a vacancy. Filling the vacancy with Houllier is the issue.

    /go go gadget pedant

    Hughton given the chop.

    Man United:

Game against Bayern at home, would went on to play average Lyon side and should made another CL final.

Olympique Marseille - the first half of the year was incredible then it all started to look like it was going down the pan, OM-style in the summer. Failing to push on in 2010-2011 has been a disappointment with the low points the home loss to Spartak Moscow and away to PSG.

    Chelsea.

The slippery slope from around half time against Blackpool at the bridge up until around New years eve.

    Birmingham City

Has to be our failings in the transfer market. Only Gardner and Foster have proven to be a success. The less said about Zigic the better. Beausejour looks out of place, Derbyshire can not finish. Hleb can only play for 60 mins and then is injured for a month. Pretty much wasted our money and now has left the club in an unstable position that could see us going the way of Pompey.

    St Patrick's Athletic

The heartbreaking cup semi final loss to Rovers at home. The pre match crowd trouble only left an even stronger sour taste in my mouth. Also, 2 defeats in Belfield were pretty depressing.

2010 was a hell of a lot better than 09 so it was a phenominal turn around. Bring on March!

    Club: Shamrock Rovers.

The 2-1 defeat to Fingal in the run up to the end of the season. I was crestfallen.

    United : Arjen Robben :(

    Club: Arsenal

Losing to Barcelona 4-1 at the Nou Camp.

Losing to Man Utd 3-1 at the Emirates.

Drawing with Birmingham 1-1 at St.Andrews with that inexplicable error by Almunia in added on time. Still makes me angry to this day, after that I knew that the title was probably out of reach.

Losing to Spurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane, never a good feeling.

Losing at Home to Newcastle 1-0, one of the worst performances at home in a long time.
Losing 3-2 to Spurs after leading 2-0 at half time.

Hopefully 2011 will be a happier year!

    Losing 0-4 to TNS
    Losing 0-3 to Rovers
    Any game involving Galway United
    Being financially ****ed
    Stephen Gray

    ****e year...

Still can't wait for the new season :o

    1) Losing 5-1 to Newcastle

    2) Going 15 games without a Premier League win.

That's about all really. In general, 2010 has been an excellent year for everyone associated with Sunderland AFC.

    Liverpool

Sacking Rafa and bringing in Hodgson as his replacement. And paying £8m for the pleasure.

Selling Mascherano and bringing in Poulsen as his replacement.

The pure non event that has been Joe Cole's time at Liverpool thus far.

Being outplayed by Blackpool. At Anfield. Also, being outplayed by Wolves. At Anfield.

Basically the whole farcical media coverage of Hodgson's tenure ar Anfield.

The figure that Torres has cut for the most part of this season.

I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that stick out of me like jagged pieces of glass.

    Dundalk FC

A three and a half hour bus trip to Galway for an away game and 5 minutes before the match it was called off due to a water logged pitch. The worst part was it was Good Friday so we couldn't even retire to a pub for a pint or two to watch whatever game was on telly before the bus trip back home.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,645 ✭✭✭Daemos

I don't think Liverpool really had any high points, did we?

    The worst results would be:

FA Cup replay at home to Reading, concede equalising goal in the last minute of normal time, and losing goal in the last minute of extra time.

Carling Cup at home to Northampton, knocked out on penalties

And Atletico knocking us out in the Europa League semi-final was pretty painful too, as that trophy was the only thing that could have salvaged our season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,003 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

Losing our trophy by a point.

Chelsea winning our trophy by a similar margin.

    Losing to Chelsea .

    Man UTD supporter BTW
