Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rally School Day - Where is best?

    Hi all,

Im looking to get a rally school day/half day for my girlfriend. Been looking in to mondello and rally school ireland as options, mondello seems to be a good bit cheaper for a half day, but seems to have alot less laps of driving (maybe is less laps of a longer course?). I cant seem to find any proper comparison of the two on boards or other sites. Has anyone been to both or can they shed some light on the pitfalls of either place? I wouldnt mind spending a bit more if the day was going to be better.
Also, are there any other options I have missed? Can travel to pretty much anywhere in the country. Is there anywhere that does offroad days? Not sure if this would be suitable though as it will be her first time doing something like this.

    Thanks

The rally school in Waterford is very good and well worth the half day.

Its off road rally driving on gravel and a bit of asphalt.

RSI laps take around one minute each, I'd imagine that a lap of any of the Mondello tracks would take a lot longer than that.

The RSI track is twisty and you don't get out of 3rd gear so it may not be ideal for a speed junkie. But for someone who hasn't done this before I believe it would be a good present.

RSI instructors tend to egg people on and encourage getting sideways. I've heard that Mondello instructors are more serious and encourage more precise driving.

Just one thing about RSI is the Escorts are quite physical cars to drive, if she is a small girl she might find them tiring.

I had a session at RSI a couple of years back and it was great fun. I'm not a speed merchant or boy racer type but I enjoy driving and it was good to have the freedom to push it.

Although I wasn't particularly good at the handbrake turns and the like on the day, I found I had a lot more confidence and drove better in the snow during the few bad spells we have had since. Less inclined to panic when the car starts to slide and nipping the handbrake on occasion when getting some understeer.

Not cheap but a good day out.
