Help connecting rs232 cable to dreambox

Hi All

I have a DMB500 clone and looking to install dreamup. When I look at the cable on line it comes in a 9 pin female connection which is correct for the dreambox but not for the laptop

The serial port on my laptop is a 15 pin female connection. Anyone advise what I can do

you can connect the DM to a network cable ,to do wathever..

You can't flash the 500 via network without Dreamup - that is, you can't force it to STOP and get an IP on boot like with the 800.

15 port on your laptop? How old is the laptop? Are you sure it's not an LPT port rather than a COM port? Can't remember the last time I saw a 15 pin port on a PC/Laptop!

Regardless, get yourself a USB-Serial converter, as suggested above, should sort you out

I could be wrong in what I'm calling it. Looked at google and it seems to be a VGA connection. I'm guessing this is different to a serial port ?

the 15 pin port is vga, you need a usb to serial adaptor

Further reading says I'll need a Serial Null cable, which appears to be different to a rs232 cable.

Will the suggested one from ebay still be ok ?

You can upload image to tmp folder and then rename it to "root.cramfs"

after doing this you can then use remote to upgrade.
