New Ipswich manager Paul Jewell will be among the spectators for Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final with Arsenal before beginning his attempt to rebuild the shattered confidence at Portman Road.

The former Derby and Wigan boss has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at the npower Championship club to replace Roy Keane and inherits a club languishing just three points above the relegation zone.

Promotion to the Barclays Premier League remains the target for the ambitious Suffolk club and Jewell is expected - as Keane was - to deliver before his deal runs out in 2013.........................

Just seen his interview on SSN, never liked any of his teams and wouldn't be his biggest fan either. He does seem to know how tough a job he has ahead of him though and best of luck to him with it.

I like Jewell, wish him well.

Wonder what Giles and Dunphy would make of it. Wonder would they still want Jewell, as Irish manager.

This appointment justifies letting Keane go I think.

He has a track record of getting promotion so you can't argue with that.

You could say he was given the chop...

What you got against Bradford?

Really like Jewell. Really personable guy, met him a few times when he was in charge at Bradford (when I was like 13) and always had time for the fans. GL to him at Ipswich!

    Absolute gem of a post.

Anyway, Jewell is hit and miss. Bradford/Wigan he did good, bad at Sheffiled Wednesday/Derby. Personally, I think he'll get Ipswich climbing back up the table.

Didn't he get caught riding some horrid looking young one on the side that subsequently ruined his marriage, thus making him leave Wigan?

If so... all power to him!
