Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. No Muller is a blow as I think his leadership qualities will be missed given the place the squad are probably in.

I've always wondered about Cave at 12, now we'll see. Allen has done fine so far on the wing so why not give him a shot in his preferred position? We always knew that Nev would be our back up 13 and indeed a genuine challenger to Cave but now we need to find another back up and Allen may well be that man. The only thing is that I remember watching Allen play a few times for MCB and while he was clearly a standout player, more so than Jackson or Gilroy ever where (when I watched them anyway), he also seemed to lack a great skillset. That's why I think he'll probably end up on the wing but like anyone he can improve his weaknesses so we'll see.

Looking forward to seeing that back row of Henderson, Henry and Williams and of course it's great to see Tommy back! I think we'll do well to win to be honest given everything but hopefully it's a good match.

Great to see Tommy Bowe back

So Iain Henderson has no hair. That's going to help him shed his baby face image.

Dunno about that, his first carry was very strong

    Good man Michael Allen!

Ulster started very slowly but they look great the past few minutes.

Michael Allen hurt himself scoring the try

refereeing fup giving Cardiff a free penalty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

Madness there. Michael Allen injured hobbling off the field, referee penalises him for offside! Commentators not happy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,817 ✭✭✭✭bilston

I can't believe the referee penalised Allen! Shocking decision

Nick Williams makes a lot of mistakes but he's so entertaining to watch!

Really enjoying this Ulster performance so far. Great to see players willing to back themselves & throw the ball around

    bbc2 NI

Try there from Williams, ref gone to the TMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

Should be a try I'd say

Shouldve been a penalty to Cardiff though. Henderson was clearly tackled and got back up.

Williams carries the ball in one hand a lot so he can handoff tacklers. Pros and cons to it I suppose!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

This ref will be lucky to get out of Cardiff alive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

Warburton is so good! Although I was delighted to see Henderson absolutely smash him with a clearout earlier.

Why would Tom Court infringe in a scrum situation where Ulster are clearly dominant? Bizarre call.

Also that looked very bad for Jason Tovey, hopefully it's not serious...

I thought it was the correct call. Looked like he went up to me.

not a bad game so far

Good first half. Better than I expected from Ulster given the circumstances. They've been excellent so far. Williams the standout with his carries, but good showings so far from Henderson & Jackson too. Allen looked sharp until he was forced off & the set piece looks strong. Good signs

Shouldnt have been a penalty. Came off a Cardiff player, which brought Brady onside

    7 tries!

    Looking like some result.

Jackson is increasingly oozing class at this level for a 20yr old with game time under his belt. Great team performance from all though.

Changed to the Leinster game after the 3rd try, just checked back quickly on this to see the score.

    48 points, stunned!

Cardiff getting exposed for the poor side they've become, no doubt.

I would start Heaney. He's so much more stable and smart. Marshall offers so much as a bench option as well. Keep Marshall on the bench when the saint returns and drop Heaney out of the XXIII

Great performance. Huge credit to all the players. So many good young players coming through at Ulster right now. Brilliant to see

smashing performance, just got home 6-0 down and the commontator saying cardiff looked comfortable on the ball... we crushed them in a scrum a minute later and never looked back... was sad to see tommy go off, wanted him to get the hatrick but great run by gilroy before the trimble try.... payne in the back 3 and allen looking good too:D

A great win and a fitting tribute to nevin.

Fat nick is seriously powerful with those hand offs and it's positive to see him lasting the full 80.

Knowing that piennar, best and ferris are in the wings it has to bode well for the season.

    Onwards and upwards.....

Williams is a complete liability. He's brilliant to watch but some of his mistakes were appalling!

What's the story with Roger Wilson?

Think this is going to be a massive year for Ulster. The squad is looking stronger than ever and Spence's passing will provide a giant motivating force for everyone involved with the province.

Bowe played a blinding game, things can only get better.

What's the story with Roger Wilson?

Not so far and for a guy who got parachuted in because the IRFU refused Ulster permission to re sign Wannenburg, he's exceeded all reasonable expectations. He's played 4 league games and three friendlies. He's been m.o.t.m. in 3 of them, has scored 5 tries and he apparently or allegedly isn't totally fit. He was immense tonight. What's he going to do to complete the liability? Just make appalling mistakes and not score tries, offload, but get sent off etc. or throw a few chancy, glory passes that bomb out. If he does, do you think he might be dropped? Wilson has been injured btw. If Williams keeps on being such the complete waste of blood and organs you seem certain he is then Wilson will find it hard to get a start. As will Diack. So until Williams' appalling play kicks in well then, we're golden either way.

Some win for Ulster tonight. I only saw the early part of the match but it looked like a good, fast game with plenty of offloads.
