Just wondering if you know which pubs have poker nights in galway city?
And if you do what day/time its on at? I know that eglinton/4aces have poker but more interested in pub games.

    Cheers,
    Shane

(PS mods please don't move to poker forum. Although not everyone here plays, there is more here that may have seen posters/ games in their local! :))

I dont think it is. I know iv played in a few different pub games and nobody ever mentioned it being illegal (not in Galway though).

I dont want to drag this thread too far off topic but do people have an opinion on which of the casinos is better?

It is illegal to be betting in pubs. The way around this if playing cards is no money should be on the table. If no money is visable it is considered just a friengly game and not gambling. TBH i don't think you are goning to get done if the gaurds walk in and there is money on show. Probably just be told to pack up the cards and stop.

Its illegal for a pub to operate a casino game where the house has an edge.

Hence you see poker games advertised as €20 + €5. The €5 is a "facilitation fee" and must be quoted seperately. The €20 must be paid out in full on the night to those participating in the game.

Blackjack can also be played in pubs if its played tournament style - e.g. Winner / 2nd place shares all pay-ins excluding any facilitation fee.

Usuually called a registration fee and goes to the tournament orgnaser.
