Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey everyone ,
I was wondering id I could get some advice . I've currently got the use of a Canon 1000D and it's alright . But I've recently been offered a Canon 30D (body only) For a very cheap price . It's used , and well used at that but still in excellent condition .

I've read all the reviews and I like what I see but I've not really read or seen any user reviews , so I was wondering if anyone here has had much experience with this camera , and what they think of it .

Any feedback would be great .

    Thanks

The 30D, in a nutshell, is basically bigger and older than the 1000D.

Google the specs and you'll find more exact differences e.g. megapixels, LCD size, frames per second.

1000D has live view but no spot meter.

The 30D is a great camera, I've had one for four years now, fired off around 30,000 shots on it so far.

It was the replacement for the 20D, and was itself replaced by the 40D and 50D models, so it's been around for a while (since 2006).

Image quality is good (although this also depends on the lens), 8MP sensor which works well up to 400iso but is a bit noisy from 800iso up. It's older technology which has been improved upon by newer cameras, sensors & processors.

I've had no problems with the camera body itself, the battery isn't holding its charge like it used to but that's to be expected after 4 years. It's not too heavy, the grip is comfortable and the controls are easy to use.

Though I'd much prefer the build quality and extra speed of the 30d [5fps v 3fps] Given the choice I'd probably opt for the newer 1000d.

how much is it being offered for? What is your budget? I see Canon 40Ds on adverts.ie all the time, at reasonable prices - always room for haggling there too.

Budget is 400euro , I know I know it isn't much , but I'm being offered the 30D for just over 300 . It also comes with a battery pack extension , charger , extra batteries (x2) , all leads and software . No lenses though , but that's ok , my Dad has a few that I can borrow whenever .
