Repair Hard Drive

Hi guys, So Basicially. I Let my hard drive fall and the usb port seems like it has being pushed in a small bit and now the computer doesn't recognize the hard drive
I have a lot of stuff saved on it that I'd love to get back.

Just Wondering can this being fixed? or anyway I can transfer all the stuff on it to another hard drive??

I presume this is an external hard drive,If the usb is broken, you could take apart the external case and take the hard drive out from the case itself and plug it in directly to the PC (internally that is) and work away from there. That is providing the hard drive itself isn't damaged from the fall..

The drive may be damaged, but as the last poster has said, the issue looks like the USB connector has broken away from the board inside the drive.
If you're using a laptop, you can buy a cable or caddy for around 15 Euro which will allow you connect the drive to a USB port in your PC / Laptop, once you remove it from its housing. Peats or Maplins will have these.
If you bring the drive with you, they will tell you whether you need a SATA or IDE cable / caddy.

The same thing happened an old drive of mine and this did the job for me.

I think you can pick up an external caddy for about 15 / 20 bob nowadays. just make sure you get the right on as you can have either IDE to usb or SATA to usb, check your drive first before purchasing.

If it is only the USB connector that is damaged you could get a new case and swap over the HD.

Great Stuff lads, Thanks. I will prob go into peats and ask their opinion on it? Delighted if it can be fixed....save me 80 quid and I'll get all the stuff back

Judging by the spec's I see on that page, It looks like its a 2.5" SATA HDD drive you have there.

So you'll need a 2.5" Sata External HDD Case
