Buying a new car, will dealers move on list price?

    Hi,

Due to a recent addition to my family I have decided its time to upgrade from my 12 year old vw polo for space reasons (Believe me I will be reluctant to get rid of it..I bought it new 12 years ago and it has not given one single bit of trouble). Provided the polo passes its nct next Month I am considering availing of the scrappage scheme and buying a new car. I am thinking about a Skoda Octavia or Ford focus entry level model, however its a little bit more than I want to spend.

From the Skoda web site I see that the Octavia starts at 16,900 before scrappage reduction. Will dealers move on this price a little?

My original thinking was to look at a 2 or 3 year old car but the scrappage offer is tempting, although it is still a little above my budget.

    Thanks

The scrappage scheme is a reduction in the VRT on the car by the Government. Most manufacturers are also offering their own additional scrappage allowance on top of the Government scheme which is basically sales talk for a discount.

Taken the above into account the dealer still has his margin to play with so there is definately movement on the scrappage price. Just remember to shop around for the best price and don't be shy in letting them know you are shopping around for the best deal.
