That was your post, we have already shown that the above cars are nearly the highest spec of the models and very few would be sold in Ireland.

Yes it is re-read it, i stand by what i wrote.

Well, Carzone, Jato, Honda.ie, the New Car sales guide, and more importantly, my Honda salesman all disagree with you.

Ill hold my hands up on that, for some reason they ahve detuned the type-s for the irish market, there is a 177bhp varient available in the uk.

You really think you can rock up at an Alfa dealer and buy a new 2.0JTDm 170bhp 159 off the forecourt? Alfa Ireland probably had a demo, but I'd estimate 10-12 weeks for an order. Same situation with the Passat/A4 170.

What has this got to do with anything? Nearly every car needs to be ordered these days such is the economic climate! The fact remains these can be easily gotten from your local main dealer.

You post like it's gospel, but don't bother to check facts - that p1sses me off, as some people might take it as gospel.

I made one factual error with the Accord (i spend a lot of time in the uk and assumed ireland had the same spec), I never said anything i wrote was "gospel". Get a grip of yourself dude.

They give plenty of turbo and DMF problems though, so you better get saving for that event.

Any turbo car WILL give turbo problems if not looked after properly..;)

    DMF problems ??
    You know of some??
Or have you owned one to witness this?

    It's getting old vectra!!
We know you love your car and there's nothing wrong with that but the sun does not shine out of it's exhaust pipe. You've had your car a few months, people like Drummerboy work in the motor trade and have sent dozens of octavias or other VAGs with that engine out to lease so id trust their knowledge before most peoples.

I have no issue with you saying how great your car is, I'd probably be the same but you seem to argue with anyone and everyone who suggests that there maybe any sort of issue with the octavia in general or anyone who's opinion of the octavia is less than glowing!!

    You are right
all cars give their own problems.

    For example.
Opel vectra diesel give lots of DMF problems dont they?

Which brings the name Fiat to mind and tags Alfa along behind it :D

Would prefer my vRS over an Alfa any day

    But hey.

Maybe I will buy something else next time round..But for now.. This car ticks every box for me... Complete with full warranty to keep me feeling secure ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,450 ✭✭✭CharlieCroker

Your right, I'd prob prefer a new octavia (not even a vrs) over MY alfa but would I take a vrs over a new 159 or guilletta???

    Not a chance!!!!

You would choose one car over everything Alfa make?
But Alfa actually make genuinely fast and good looking cars, even if they are too burdened with mostly FWD too...

Yes, I do know of some, and yes I have owned two to witness this (When I say owned, the company I work for does). Both 08, one silver, one blue, one manual, one DSG. Both under 100,000km with a FSSH.

The DSG one has had a turbo replaced twice under warranty for reasons that Skoda cannot tell us. It also had a problem with the gearbox, where it wouldnt go into gear.

The manual one has had a clutch and flywheel, oil consumption problems, Airbag module replaced, tyre pressure sensors replaced, Xenon headlamps replaced because they failed at 3 in the morning on a dark back road, and a few other small issues.

Yes, you are right, any car will give turbo problems if they are not looked after properly. But cars can also give turbo problems even if they ARE looked after properly, as demonstrated above.

Don't get me wrong, the VRS is a nice car to drive, but it ain't the chariot you suggest it is.

I am also politely suggesting that you take your head out of the sand and realise that potentially your car could also give the above problems. It is not as invincible as you lead others to believe here, as I and many others have found out.

You didn't come up with that speel because he has an Alfa emblem in his sig so presumably drives one did you?

Thought that was a bit childish myself.

I do own an Alfa btw, and I'd buy another in the morning. I still get a sense of occasion everyone I get into it, even after 3 years and it always makes me grin when it'll do 75mph in 2nd gear and redline at 8000rpm! Try doing that in a diesel!!!

    Ah,
    The silly season starts
Thats like saying someone would prefer a felicia over a 159 for example

But now that you suggest it I would much prefer a 360 modena over that alfa you posted.. after all..they are both Italian aint they? :P

Can you swoh me exactly what post I made to suggest it was the best car anyone could have or dream of having as a lot of you are suggesting I did say??
I am curoius as to where I did say they never give any sort of issues??
Beats me wherre ye get that notion from
i did say they are a good car..
    Am I wrong??
Sales seem to suggest i am correct.

I await the reply showing where i said they are the best car since the sliced pan was invented ;)

I also had an opel Vectra that would stick the needle at 100mph in 3rd
    but what does that prove??
