    Hey guys,

I'm currently in Melbourne with my Girlfriend. We're planning on heading to do our rural work in March sometime and have pencilled in WA as the destination, Margaret River to be more precise.

Just wondering if anyone here has any experience of working on the vineyards (or anywhere else) in this area and has any advice/tips helpful info?

    Thanks!

A lot of Irish in WA have started to take jobs in the roadhouses and mines as their regional work to get their extension. I was touring down the west coast on WA just before xmas and nearly every roadhouse we went in to - and some of them are very remote! - had at least one Irish staff member. We stopped to fill up at one between Broome and Port Hedland and there was a fella from Roscommon manning the pumps. 45c, blazing heat, arid landscape and he was feeling it. We nearly called in the UN to save the bloke!

I'd love that kind of a gig tbh, it'd be an experience. Reckon I can take the heat a bit better than your average Irishman. How would people go about getting this sorted? Gumtree and the likes?

Try the Hip Pocket jobs page on Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/hipjobs#!/hipjobs?sk=wall
which has lots of info on bar jobs and other rural jobs in WA, also call into Aussie Jobs in Barrack Street, Perth when you get over there, this is the site http://www.aussijobs.com.au/ and the Job Shop in William Street, http://www.thejobshop.com.au/, met lots of people in my hostel in Perth who got work for their Second Working Holiday Visa through these 2 agencies, there should be lots of vineyard work coming up in Margaret River in Feb/March/April, best of luck with it and enjoy the travels on the West Coast!

The government website is pretty good its http://jobsearch.gov.au/harvesttrail/map.aspx

Bar work etc in a rural area does NOT count as your rural work so be careful with that.

    Good luck

Nor does roadhouse work. There was a funny incident here a while back where a certain poster went on a rant about people lying on their 2nd year visa apps being all scum of the earth and proudly boasted he was grafting in a roadhouse.

Hes back in Ireland now. Karmas a bitch eh :pac:
