Would love to do something once a week that is more social than active, but can't seem to think of anything. Not looking for love or anything, just something to meet new people and have fun.

What's trendy these days in town?

Zumba seems to be popular going by Nationwide last week, yes that's right I watched Nationwide!

What about a book club or weekly poker game?

+1 for photography, but I'd join a club if you want to be more social.

What about a language, acting, dance class etc?

A lot of the evening classes start in GMIT and GTI next week. Check out the links in the 'what's happening' sticky at the top of the forum

    Can you sing?

PRESS RELEASE: Galway Choral Association seeks new singers for 2011

    ---

Galway Choral Association <http://www.galwaychoral.ie/> has vacancies for the coming season. All voice parts are needed, and male singers are particularly welcome.

The choir has an exciting programme of sacred and secular choral music, and are working towards a concert in May. Directed by Norman Duffy, rehearsals are on Sunday at 7.30pm at St Patrick's Band Hall.

New members are welcome to join during the first three weeks of term. Music reading skills helpful, but not required if you have a love of singing and a couple of free hours on a Sunday evening.

For information, contact Norman Duffy at [snipped ... PM me if you want it]

Maybe you are already good at something? What skills do you have? Why not volunteer at a club or a charity? It is often easier to mix socially if your are doing something in your comfort-zone.

Music? As in learning to play an instrument and being part of a band/an orchestra?

Thinking of giving it a go myself. Played the scottish bagpipes decades ago:D

Don't know about 'trendy' but a lot of the young folk I know speak highly of the drumming classes (African/Native Am. I think) in the Mercy school on Thurs nights.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

I'm starting to lean towards some sort of volunteer work. Anyone know of organizations looking?

Positive Mental Health are usually on the lookout for volunteers: http://www.positivementalhealth.ie/

For fun, I always suggest geocaching to anyone who hasn't tried it before:

I'd give that a go. I tried about a year ago but everything was either week day evenings or during the day time on weeks. They didn't have anything during the weekends

    Great first post.

You've got a fresh sound. It will play well on this board.

Pity you didn't phrase that differently, can't use the Leslie Nelson line now...

And I am serious. Started a gaming group with my girlfriend, 2 of her female friends and one of their boyfriends.
