Thanks for this. New to Cork( west) and have not yet the courage to drive into the city although I suspect it will happen by accident before too long..

I too am a newcomer to Cork, and have throughly enjoyed looking at these pics. I also enjoy listening to all the stories of old Cork from my father-in-law.

    Keep 'em coming! :)

Off topic, but how do the locals in Cork say South Mall...Mahhll or Molll?

I'm a blow in around these parts and ain't sure how to say it.

Also, how do you say Skehard?

    Thanks!

Short 'a' like the way you'd say 'rat' or 'ram, NOT the way you'd say 'ball' or 'fall'. So it rhymes with the first syllable of 'Sally'.
    KungPao wrote: »

The first syllable is pronounced exactly the same as the word 'ski' and the second is exactly how you'd say 'hard'.

99.9% of the time, everything in Ireland with an A in it is spoken like "Athlone" and not like the "A-Team"

To embed images in a post click on the insertimage.gif icon and then paste the URL of the image into the pop up window that appears. I was going to embed one of yours but the pics are huge so they would need to be re-sized before embedding.

That building in the pic posted by two is albert quay house,it was originally the headquarters of the cork bandon and south coast railway. The station was directly behind and the trains from kent station used to come in on the right as you look at the photo.

Took these last year with a crappy 2 mega-pixel phone camera!. It was one of those breathtakingly crisp mornings. I was walking into town to get my car after being on the piss the night before. Notice the morning fog spilling across the river from the Glanmire direction behind Blacrock Castle .
