Dell studio 17 HDMI sound

Right, so I actually have a Dell Studio 1555 (not the above), my hdmi cable and a samsung tv.

I can use the TV as a monitor but its impossible to get the sound to go through the tv.

In my sound options there should be a TV icon so I can make it the default, but this has disappeared all of a sudden.

So can anybody help? Please

Im desperate. Tried soo many different things off the internet.

and plug one end into your headphone jack and the other into your tv.;)

I have one of them already but I really don't want to have to resort to that.

Are you sure that will work anyway when the hdmi cable is in and it should only work when you are using pc input?

Obviously you have tried
1. Go to control Panel
2. Hardware and Sounds
3. Sounds
4. Select HDMI, Right Click.
5. Set As Default.;)

Other than my previous idea. I'm stumped. Lead will work from headphone jack btw.

What type of graphics have you got? It may not support audio over HDMI.

It has worked before. Just disappeared recently.

I am at work at the moment so can't check for definite but:

I downloaded the ATI HMDI audio codec from here:

And at least now there is a little tv option in my sound controls
