87 gross at The European Club off 1. Very disappointing as have been getting it around in half decent scores of late.

Nice day but windy...this place never plays easy but I've seen it play harder as well. Birdied 11 to get back to a respectable 4 over before coming home in an ambulance. Which proceeded to crash and necessitated a second ambulance :(

Ball-striking poor enough but putting was really disappointing. Bad mistakes accentuated by idiotic three-putting, and capped it all off with some bad luck on 13, where an average drive found a dis-proportionately bad lie. 4 hacks later and I'm still 240 yards fom the green, so kind of lost the rag after that.

Oh well, Tulfarris again on Saturday. Chin up!

    any spare spots for Tulfarris?

Not sure PDE but I think there might be. Get in touch with Madds for details.

Not a member of Tulfarris but played there last week with some fellow Lucan members and going again on Saturday. Can't speak for club joining fees, membership or politics, but nothing wrong with the course!

Did my usual trick of turning 36/37 points into 31 today at Luttrellstown... Best I've drove the ball in months, maybe in a year in fact. Hit one bad drive all day, tugged it left into the trees on the long par-four 14th, got a lucky break and proceeded to play one bad shot after the other on the hole. Three-putt from nowhere on 13 before that had really p*ssed me off...

Havent played or practiced hardly at all in the past 3 months so happy enough. Very happy in fact. Roll on next week!

37 points playing off 14 today in grange castle. Went round in 86 strokes.

Not too upset with that pretty solid apart from a couple of holes.

27 points playing off 15 in Dublin city.

Worst performance in a long time. Only managed two pars. Poor in bad condition and a five ball holding us all up didn't help!

Onwards and upwards to next week.

Just wanted to follow up on this, I was totting up my fairways hit while driving to work the following day and I realised I hit 10 of 14 fairways - which I'm sure is my best driving day ever? I only hit one poor drive really all day - on 14. All three other missed fairways were just a few yards in the rough.

Granted, Luttrellstown is not exactly testing off the tee, but still - nice to be hitting it in play for a change!

Absolutely muck today. Like I never played before. Timing all gone to hell. Hit a few in the range after to see what the hell was going wrong....and wouldn't you know I was crushing the ball.....insane game.:o

    What he said!

Shocking for second running. Not playing to my handicap at all.

Shot 28 points playing off 15 in Highfield. Really disappointed right now and I hope I can stop the rot!

    +2 Sunday.
    +5 Saturday.

The plus 2 should have been 1 better and the plus 5 should have been 3 better.
I missed four 18 inch putts (max). one yesterday and 3 on Saturday. Greens have been forked.

    Roll on summer.

4th game back after a six month layoff due to injury... today had 16 points in a 14 hole single stableford comp.

no discernable improvement over 3 previous rounds dispite a mountain of practice.

    must. be. patient.

also, played with an older dublin gent who seemed to know just about everything about anything that ever existed - and had no problem sharing that info for 4 hours.

must learn to tune out know-it-all shartboxes.

Shot 74 yesterday (Par 71) but still placing and forward tees so trying not to get ahead of myself. Playing well though - 2 birdies, 11 pars and 5 bogeys. No doubles or worse. -1 for the back 9 which is my best '9' ever. 74 is my best 18 ever too.

82 gross in Lucan off 1, or 26 points.

Shocking score and am at odds as to how to explain it...

Quite a nice day but cold at times, which affected noticeably the distance the ball was flying. Felt fine over most shots, drove the ball fairly well but was crucified anytime I missed a fairway, particularly the first 2 holes where I recorded 2 scratches.

Thereafter, just the odd dropped shot here and there, with a solitary birdie on the par 5 fifth (where I two-putted for 4) until a 6,7 finish. I hesitate to use the word 'rusty', but I was :(, and another excuse was the decision to lift placing in the rough and allow only dropping-might not seem significant but areas around greens are devoid of growth and dropping into anything other than a horrendously bare lie makes chipping a bit of a lottery.
The greens themselves were sanded and pole-forked on Thursday and are in awful nick, like putting through a bunker. So trying not to get too discouraged-bad score but some positives. And great to be back playing 18 holes again :D

shot level par yesterday.sounds good but very annoyed as worse i could have shot by long way.

    3birdies
    1eagle
    3bogeys:(
    1double:mad:

first double in some time came on the first.par4 of 370 and drove to no more than 50 from green.chilly dipped it in bunker and ended with 6:eek:.to top it all off missed best gross by 1.

37 pts in Adare Manor off 18
    Casual round.
Included two scratches due to wildness off the tee
If I can just keep it in play I might actually be able to make my target handicap for the year - 16
Rest of game coming along pretty well

32 points off 7 in Luttrelstown. 13 points on the front 9. Poor play on a couple of holes and not too many putts dropped.
Back 9 19 points by just cutting out the stupid mistakes and making a few putts. First time playing it and i was impressed.

Cracker of a course. Great tough stretch from the two-fairway par-five 12th through 13 and 14.

Shot 91 in our first Medal today. This equalled my best score from the back tees for the last 3 years. Playing off 13, so +20 against a strong wind was ok.

The shot game is still killing me but I guess that the same everyone between hc13 to hc17.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭Dero123

Shot 90 today in our first golfer of the year event in Athy, handicap is 10.
Playing the four par 5's in eight over is not ideal....

Played Dromoland today in a fourball for a golf society yoke that i got an invite to play.
Off the white tee's, my partner(H10) and me(6) had 43 points.

Was 4 over on my own card with a stupid double on the handy par5 11th....had 1o pars in a row before that  boring stuff really...couldnt buy a putt but i'm used to that.

Seven over 78 gross around home course, Lucan, off 1.

Still not happening for me, don't feel like I'm playing horrendously but scores are horrendous :(

Course still in very rough tack, greens (and fringes) that were sanded 2 weeks ago still in atrocious condition and areas around the greens extremely bare. Presumably due to lack of growth over the winter, but doesn't do anything for one's chipping unfortunately.

Consequently, an historically reliable short-game has been crippled and rest of the game not quite up to making up for that reality just yet. Drove the ball well, but a host of average to poor iron shots led to very few birdie chances, only one of which I was able to take. +2 after nine, made a good par on ten before committing golfing suicide on eleven with a double bogey 5.

Did make a par on the last for the first time this year at least :) Onwards and upwards

32 points playing off 15 in Knockanally in casual game on Sunday 20Mar.

Front nine was a shocker, 11 points, simple and stupid errors with the lob wedge around 4 greens cost me bad. Was questioning and arguing with myself until the 9th green.

Back nine was much better where I cut out the errors and managed 21 points. 4 pars, 1 birdie, one double and 3 singles.

    Roll on next round.

:D109 strokes......best strokes I got but felt I left about 10 shots out there............playing in Blarney Golf Resort.

drove the ball crap for the first 3 holes and then played without my glove which seemed to make a massive difference. Had 99 strokes coming into the par 4 18th and had settled in my mind for a 6...............got under my tee shot, took a three wood to my muddy ball and hacked it up the fairway, hit a 6 iron into the man made lake beside the green and couldn't get down..........took 10

On a positive note, putting is coming together nicely :D

33pts in 17 hole Wicklow G.C open today off 14.
3 scratches, bad driving for most holes, not catching them at all last couple weeks.
    Inconsisent as usual.
Great value all the same for €10.

Shot a 79, finally with no placing. First time this year felt I was roughly in control of irons. Got away with a couple of wayward drives and putting still not right despite greens being good. Saying that happy to hit h'cp for first time this year. Plenty to work on!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 62 ✭✭wellsir

10 handicap, 14 holes, 11 bogies, 2 pars and one scratch (ball lost when didn't deserve it) actually happy.
delighted to keep doubles off card

33 points (15hc) around Palmerstown House today. Really enjoyed it, lovely day and played quite well. Two brainfarts resulting in two scratches. Should've been a 37-point round but that's the stort of the last two years for me to be honest.

It's €49 for a round of golf, a pint and a grill at PH these days. Well worth it, particularly when you get a day like today... also had a rare deuce as well :)

Greens are still showing some slight signs of pole-forking but they ran perfect today... and I putted f*ckin great! :)

36 points around The Links at Portmarnock.

2 dings, one of which was due to 4 shots out of a green side bunker.

Finally got the putter somewhat under control, drove the ball well. Poor with the irons.

Four ball competition - we had 46 points, which was enough for the win :)

Had an interesting round of golf today. Started treble bogey, par, eagle, par, double bogey, par, par and kind of carried on in that vein for the rest of the round going from the sublime to the somewhat ridiculous.

Still and all, signed for a 5 over par 76 which is my 3rd round in the 70's at my home course in the last four 18 hole rounds, the other being a not too shabby 83.

I play off 13 so as you can imagine 3 sub 80 rounds in 4 has me encouraged at the start of the season. Regular play since January and some practice time seems to be paying off. Really hope I can keep this level up for when it counts, coz it don't count for $hité now as far as I am concerned.

No. Course has dried out well over last few weeks. Still some very bare lies around the greens but wasn't too bad.
