5 over this morning off 6 handicap.
Driving was really good with only 1 missed fairway :) but my mid to long irons were poor and didnt give myself enough chances and short-sided myself badly on a few occasions.
Pretty happy overall but need to get more consistant.

Had a great hack around today.5 over off 17:eek:.Not a bandit thanks, just started getting it together, now have to get that 17 cut to bits.Out in 40 back in 37.Well chuffed 3 birdes on the back nine.

Ballinrobe 34 off 19. Drove it very well and hit irons as good as I ever had but for the love of god, couldnt putt it in the hole if they were as big as a bath. 8 3putts.

Played Greystones on Friday for the first time. Very nice course with only the short par three on the back nine being a bit of a nothing hole. Enjoyed it. Couldn't have had a nicer day for it. Played ok, driver starting to get a little sloppy again after 2/3 months of good solid driving.

    Shot 71 gross today
    1 under
Could and should have been much better.Usual missed chances and stupid missed putt for par from a foot on index 1.Still,unreal day to be out playing.

37 pts in Tipperary on Sat.

18 out 19 in. Hit my mid irons very well, if my putting was up to scratch would have broken 40pts with ease. Left too many putts short, the greens were very slow but didn't learn my lesson after the first few. Think I only holed one putt outside 10ft.

    Live & learn.

    Played Druids Glen on saturday...
    30 points off 19.
Played better than of late but hope to improve!!!
Course was generally in good nick.. greens perfect but a few bare patches on the fairways and around the greens.
Really enjoyed it though... Playing in Ireland in April in a tee shirt can't be bad :D

Tuesday: 33 points at Doonbeg. Great course but greens were very very slow.

Wed :Ballykisteen in mens open 36 points.

    Thurs: Faithleg 30 points.

Sat: Woodenbridge (Home course) 26 points! Best greens of the week.

12 h'cap and obviously heading upwards.

30 points off 16 in Luttrelstown yesterday. 14 on front and 16 coming back. Average day. Driving never been better irons getting stronger but putting let me down. I'm ok with that though coz I'm trying out my new putter and will take time.

Course in great nick apart one or two patchy greens and just a little too much sand on the greens! Lovely place.

Funny how you came to that conclusion.

We started saving for that trip 3 years ago and all 4 guys involved are married and all have kids.

Total cost was 150 quid btw.:D

It was so hard to find a time we were all available to play.
One day before going on trip the elder statesman of our group was informed he had got a spot on Wed to have his pacemaker implanted and only got to play Doonbeg.

    But I agree with you

To be single again! and 4 times a night.

73 in Medal CSS was 74 and had 9 on 5th so another cut off 19.3, 5 shots gone in 2 weeks. Practice really does pay off.

I shot 24 over par last weekend and managed a paltry 29 points off 18. Absolutely dreadful stuff. Only one scratch thankfully, but far too many one pointers. I really need to do something about my short game, especially my putting. I'm leaving everything too short, including a few chips. I was also trying out a couple of new clubs, a tactic which I should have avoided, but I was like a kid in a sweetshop with them and couldn't help myself...! Ah well, there's always next weekend!

Put together the kind of decent (by 15hc standards) round I've been threatening for weeks today at Grange Castle.

Drove the ball lovely all day. Decent bogey on the first, parred second, bogeyed third after missing from inside three feet for par, good bogey on four, bad bogey on five then parred my way to the turn for a four-over front nine which may be my best nine ever? Not sure.

Chipped and putted great all day - really chipped em stiff.

Pars on 10 and 11 gave me six pars in a row (again, I'm pretty sure that's a first - I can remember having five before but never six) before my usual mid-round crisis reared its ugly head.

Par-five 12th: Perfect drive followed by a smooth six-iron left me exactly 100yds to the front-right pin. So, rather than doing the sensible thing and swinging a smooth wedge at it, I for some reason came to the sudden belief I was Phil Mickelson and decided I'd punch a 'half' eight-iron... Bad idea - shanked it into the drink in three, dropped four, pitched on in five and two putts for a seven.

Next hole, decent drive down the middle, half-hit rescue club followed by a poor-ish SW left me a long putt for par which I turned into my second-straight double bogey.

"Here we go again" was all I was thinking but a super up and down on the next followed by another great par on 15 after a lovely four-iron approach had me back rolling. Double-bogeyed 16 after playing it cleverly (iron off tee, rescue short of green) but three-putted.

Poor bogey on 17 left me 11-over and a little disappointed. But, hit one of my best of the day down the left side of the fairway on 18; Rescue club pin high right of the green followed by a lovely chip about five feet under the hole left me a closing birdie for 10-over-par.

Hit nine fairways and had three more that were 2/3 yards in rough. Also hit seven greens and was 'in and around' all greens in reg bar two, really. Pleased overall.

I'm tempted to say it could've been one or two better cos I had two three-putts but that would be ignoring the fact I got the ball up and down five times from round the green for one-putts (four of them pars and the one birdie)

My pal shot eight-over and was goin bananas... stupid three-handicappers, they just don't get it :D:D

Will try to post all rounds here!

Last Saturday (9th Apr) . 36 (20+16) points off 17 after not playing for a year.

Happy enough with all parts of my game.

Blocked a few shots which will have to be sorted but not too punishing compared to the hook I couldnt shake off a year ago.

Putting will definitely improve too which is exciting.

Want to get down to 15 in the next 2 months!

    Shot 83 in Charlesland today, 39pts (21)(18) off 14.
Scratched that bloody 16th hole and should of done better on couple other holes but all in all a decent round grinding out some scores.
Greens were very fast there today, best they have been for an open in a good while.
More work to be done to break 80 but hopefully get there soon.

Brought friend to my home course for open comp.Wrist bit sore so decided against entering.
Ended up shooting 69 gross.3 under.
Aint that a balls ha.Still no saying with card in hand it would have been same score.

30 points in Grange Castle playing off 18.

Still swinging very well from tee to green so happy with that. A few scuffs and unlucky lies here and there.

Main problem is I had about 7 three putts and 1 four putt. My third with new putter and can't get used to the weight at all. Putting is usually my strong point so once that comes back I'll be flying down.

    Course in great nick too.

Very casual round with a pal @ Naas GC this morning. More of a bleedin chat & a walk to be honest. Felt like I was playing just alright but was very pleasantly surprised to count up 33pts at the end of it. Honestly was surprised I had more than 29/30 or so.

Took it as a good sign! :)

monthly medal today strokes. Gross 79, off 7 so nett 72. Couldn't sink a putt all day though.. Had several feather putts today and couldn't got one.. Happy with my game though. Never did worse than a bogey on a hole..:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Nemesis

    Strokes April 16th shot a net 77 (Gross 89).

Bad day in the medal, 88 off 14.
4 shots lost to penalty drops.

Always knew the short game is key to getting handicap down and now more than ever i really need to improve this part of the game and get closer to the pin around the greens.

Have improved a great deal on technique and club selection whilst chipping but have to start judging landing spots better and get within a few feet.

Joined a different place couple weeks ago which is also 9 hole course but it is long and hopefully it will improve all aspects of my game over the next few months as well as keep playing as many opens and semi opens on other courses.

Still though, was a great laugh and fantastic weather to be out playing.

83 (45+38) at Silloge park today, haven't got a official hc yet as I'm not a member anywhere and have only been playing properly for the guts of a year,
It could and should of been better but had to go 3off the tee on the short par 4 :mad:after hooking it!! (should of just taken a hybrid) with better course management I could of broken 80 I think:confused:.

I did chip in from the bunker on 16 for a nice birdie so that was the highlight of the round:)

tees and fairways were in ok nick but the greens are slow and sandy at the moment,

shot 87 gross today in the medal left 69 nett (37) (50) going great to 11th and then let it slip, very disappointing after a great start

Shot 88 in the monthly medal nett 76.was two over after 5 & in the middle of the fairway on 6 and ended up with a quad bogey 8.. Steadied up again until a double on 16 and triple on 18

36 points off 15 in Castlecomer Open Singles today...

Could have been so much better, drove the ball well all day, hit 12/14 fairways but my irons were a bit iffy...

The course is in great nic, the greens in particular are excellent!!

Shot a gross 83 with two doubles and a quadruple. Hit the ball well, much promise for the summer if I can take the few bad holes out.

    +3 yesterday & +6 today (w/dbl on 18, 2 unplayable drops!).
first 2 comps of 2011 so onwards & upwards...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭strokes1

.....A problem shared is a problem halved!!!!

First medal of the year, back tees, strokes, Hcap 18

First 3 holes: bogey, bogey par
Next 3 holes: +11 over for the 3 of them
Next 3 holes: par, bogey, par
Next 3 holes: par, double, tripple
Next 3 holes: par, double, double
Last 3 holes: tripple, tripple, bogey

Crazy game, I only had 31 putts, and drove well, the irons just didnt turn up and got me in so much trouble- the 8 shots out of 4 bunkers didnt help either!! I think I will go and take a rest in a dark room!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

    105.

Just started playing last year, have played about 10 times, still haven't broke 100.

This round was particularly annoying cause I lost a couple of balls after seemingly decent drives. I racked up an 8 after having a bit too much fun with a bucket and spade and another few strokes after some silly 3 putts.

Also I relied too much on my pitching wedge from rough around the greens when the lofted sand wedge was the better option.

There's a good round in me soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,165 ✭✭✭Anatom

35 points off 18 yesterday, off the very back sticks. Had one bird and one scratch, and the rest were a combination of ones, twos and the odd three.

Not a great score I know, but I played much better than ever before. I drove the ball really well and was never in any trouble off the tee at all, apart from the last par 3 where I recovered from shanking my 7-iron off the tee box to get up and down for four.

I just don't have enough confidence in my irons yet, and my putting....

Well, played my first Intermediate Scratch Cup (off 18) at the weekend and played suitibly dreadfully. Two 9's to start off with, as i was seriously stressed (even had a dose of the runs in the morning, like getting ready for an interview) But the guy i was playing with was a gent, told me the competition was written off now and to just enjoy the game.

Totally relaxed after a few more holes, started stringing a few nice holes together and started striking my irons very well, getting back some of the distance i seemed to have lost of late.

Eventho the round was a shambles (97) i came off the course with a new sense of purpose, knowing what i need to work on and believing that i had made good progress in ridding myself of a little preshot knee bend that had crept into my swing.

    Roll on the next competition.

    41 pts off 17 yesterday.
Front 9 was going great 2 bogeys 6 pars and a scratch.
Mixture of pars and bogeys on back 9
21 on front 20 on back.
Got 2nd and have got a bit of consistancy going.:D

26 points off 19 very poor round, lost 5 shots in 2 weeks but lost form badly, back to basic errors like coming up off the ball and timing all wrong.

Still hit some great shots and had a birdie so hopefully I can get the swing back and get back to moving in the right direction

A lot like me. Off 18 and it was my first ever stroke comp and shot a 97.
Started well enough, ended well enough but blew up in the middle.
Did everything I haven't done in an age - sliced drives, topped drives, duffed pitches and chips - brutal.
Mad to get out during the week for a few holes to get it out of my system
Worst thing about a bad round is having to wait a week to flush it !!

A tale of two nines really 107 in Blarney yesterday evening(20 HC)...................60 for the front nine then 47 coming back, had 42 putts in total which I think is ridiculous, had four pars coming back though which I was happy enough about.

Note to self going forward: give the ball a chance at going in, left too many 6/7 feet short...................

I was exactly like this last year but then I read the Inner game of golf (not bad) and the one thing I took from it for my putting was to look at the hole taking practice swings and just let your central nervous system work out how hard to hit the ball - don't overthink it.
Because of this I've now become a very good lag putter - I get within 3 feet 90%+ from 30, 40, 50 feet.
Of course I can't hole anything outside 3 feet so I may as well be 30 feet away as 10 feet but that's another issue

Anyway might be worth a try

Golf society weekend away. 40 points and scratched the 18th hole. Played in the penultimate group. One player of the final 3ball behind me shot 40 points also so I lost on the countback. My 22-18 to his 20-20. One bad shot(drive on 18) cost me big time. Cruel game

31 pts off 6 in Charleville yesterday. An absolute horse of a day... Driving was absolute pants, didn't hit a fairway until the 8th. I was mostly in the trees or on the wrong hole altogether. When I was punching out of trees or hitting it over and around them, I was getting them within a good distance for birdie. But when I had a good drive, I was hitting terrible shots to the green.

I hit 9 of the first 12 greens and I was 6 over, I don't know where my putting went to as it has been extremely solid over the past few days when practicing. Nothing dropped and it did my left nut in! Lots of putts just rolling on the edge and not dropping

A very frustrating day, but I can be really happy about my recovery shots.

Could'nt get it going at all today in Bray GC, 33 pts off 14, (17)(16)
2 scratches and 2 birdies on the card.
A real up and down round of golf.
Always seems to be something to ponder after a round these days, played today with a low handicapper and he was'nt the first to mention about not taking my time before shots. Do be in a hurry without thinking properly what i'm about to do.
Enjoyed it all the same, been a while since i played there and hopefully i can put together a sensible round of golf in the intermediate scratch cup there Sat week.
Course is in great condition, not one of my favourite places to play but good to get out anyway on a day like that !

I'm alway torn between going for the green with my second and flirting with the ditch, or laying up.
