Despite the similarities between our problems, the issue was actually being caused by my 802.11 adapter. Back up to 29.5mbps now.

What do I need to do to allow utorrent work with UPC's Cisco EPC2425 please?

I have been testing with my software firewall off, and also bittorrent worked fine with my old broadband.

I have it working now by setting up port forwarding.

To make sure it's working correctly, should I disable UPnP on the router, and disable UPnP and auto port mapping in utorrent?

Also, is there anything else I should do, and is there anyway to set the username for logging into the router?

It seems sometimes after minutes of nothing happen I have to run utorrent's port test/setup test *without* changing the port. When the test completes everything just starts up regardless of whether before starting the test i wait 5 minutes after starting utorrent with nothing happening, or 20.

I'm running utorrent under linux because it was easy to customize to specific settings required by a private tracker I use.

That may be why just having UPnP and auto port mapping set within utorrent may not be enough for me, and why I have to configure static port forwarding.

i think upc updated firmware on their cisco epc2425 recently and im no longer able to enter bridge mode through 192.168.1/GatewayMode.asp
restart modem and all the lights just keep flikering...really annoying...anyone have an idea how to fix it....i cant play fifa12 ultimate team anymore online, keep getting disconnected without it being in bridge mode....:(
Yup, seems that way, reset my modem earlier for what turned out to be an issue outside.

No idea on how to fix, working on it though :p

    Hi,

wondering if anyone here would be able to shed some light on a problem I'm having with my Cisco EPC2425.

I live in a 3 story house and the Cisco wifi modem is located on ground floor. Wireless coverage in the top floor is poor. What I was trying to do is use a different WIFI router to see if the range improves, I got a NetGear N300 Dual Band. dont know if it will improve the signal but worth a try.

I cannot get the Bridging mode in my Cisco to work properly so the NetGear cannot connect.

I've turned Bridging on (http://192.168.1.1/GatewayMode.asp) and restarted. After the Cisco router restarts the lights just keep on turning on and off in sequence (Power, DS, US and Online). I can access the router URL http://192.168.100.1 only briefly. Then the lights turning on/off all over again. It looks like the router cannot restart correctly in bridging mode.

Has anyone came across this before or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks,
    Jacko

This question as well for me. I got it into bridging but it just kept restarting / dropping connection constantly. I ended up having about 5-10 seconds to quickly access the page and set it back to router to stop it from doing so.

Anyone have a solution for this? :)

    Hi,

A question and some information on the 3925 vs the 2545.

Question: Do you require the exact supplied modem to decode UPC's signal, or will any modem, or any UPC modem be able to do it?

Information: My housemate recently moved out, and took her UPC account with her. She called UPC a while ago to move the account to the new address, but has left the 2545 wireless modem here for the moment.

I have just got a new account with UPC, and got the 3925 modem (no wireless built in as you know), which was supplied this morning.

I've set up the new connection with the 3925 and it's working. I'm on it now. Great. But my housemates 2545 is still here so I tried plugging it back in to use the wireless. Not working. The lights all turn on and stay steady, but the computer wont connect.

I'm guessing, the connection is modem specific. Any confirmation on that? I figure if I want wireless, I'll have to buy a wireless router which takes a network cable input.

Each modem is provisioned on UPC's network by MAC address authentication, unique to that modem, and is authorized by the address it's connected in.

    Also, the 3925 is wireless.

Any cable modem on which you can modify the WAN interface MAC address is usable with UPC's service. I'm not sure how easy to is to get the MAC address from the Cisco router.

You know, it's only just now that I've found the wi-fi signal from the 3925.... I didn't purchase the 'wireless modem add on' when I got the package, so I had just assumed!

    Thanks! I'm suitably embarrassed.

hmmm.... So what was all that UPC stuff about paying an extra 50 for a wireless modem on the website.. Other people should ignore that. No point paying 50 for nothing!

Yup! It's a bit odd. UPC have only ever supplied two models for the 50mb and 100mb services. That's the EPC3925 and the Thomson TWG870. Both are wireless anyway!

Well i can find the MAC address easy enough from logging into the 3925, but as for changing it on the 2425, I don't know. It's software looks a lot different than the 3925, and I can't log into the administration/set up area (even connected with a cable to the 2425 - seems someone previously set up a password). But as the 3925 turns out to be a wireless modem, problem has been effectively resolved anyway. Thanks though.. Thinking more about it, I guess someone might be able to reformat the 2425 with new software and get it done, but that's just idle speculation.

I've signed up for the 20mb service, with no addon's, self install, and no other products (TV/Phone). So basic as you get. But the EPC3925 arrived this morning. I guess they've just decided it's as cheap/easy as a modem anyway. The booklet that comes with shows the standard modem as a Scientific Atlantic 2203, but the booklet doesn't even mention a 3925 (the 2425 is shown, and a third possible modem, the Thomson 870, is shown). So for whatever reason, it seems they're sending out 3925s for the lower packages now.

Signed up for UPC 25mb package expecting to receive the router in their installation video which has a removable antenna. Instead I got the Cisco 3925. I phoned UPC and was informed that the 3925 goes with the 25mb package and the other goes with the 50mb or 100mb package. I would like the removable antenna as I have a booster to get through our thick walls. Any ideas?

I got the 2425 with the 25mb package, I thought the 3925 is for the 50mb.. I heard the wireless signal is not good on that 3925

The simplest, though not necessarily the cheapest, way would be to order the new modem from UPC.

Alternatively, and rather awkwardly, you could find another cable modem (one that takes the coax input) and either:

    a) ring UPC and see if they will configure the new modem's wan address to their network so it will work for you (I don't know if they would do that, but worth a shot); or
    b) (someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just after reading about this for the first time) find some way to change the mac address of your new modem so that it will work on your connection (but the mac address is usually hard coded into the chip, so logging into the modem and trying to change its settings wont help)

Just took one look at it out the box and realized it was not what I wanted. Monday will try for exchange again. Would have thought if you cannot even see the antenna the coverage would be limited. Am I covered by distance selling as I ordered online?

Would have thought so. 7 days isn't it? I think some mentions that earlier in this thread.

Same issue here, got the router during the week but it has crap signal in the other room which is 15 feet away. Is this normal? I paid 50 quid for this router as I signed up for the 20meg line

    Ouch.

Have you tried changing the channels? Try every single one, and if that does not work there are programs, and even a website I believe, that will use your wireless card to scan your home to see which channels are populated, and which channels would be best for your connection.

I cannot think of the name of either, but I am sure google or someone on boards knows.

Received my Cisco EPC 2425 with the 25mbps package no more than three weeks ago. That said, it might make sense for you to at least confirm the signal is not as strong as the 2425 online or in practice before you try to exchange it.

Another very annoying issue Im having is my connection rises and fluctuates from 4megs to 15 and my upload speed is usually around .03megs. Why is this? Just a rubbish router?

I got the same problem with the 3925, that I've just got working in the house.

I put a post about it here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=77551550&postcount=14

Essentially, though boards members recommended a remote firmware upgrade, UPC are going to send out an engineer to have a look at it. I'll post back if there's any progress.

Why not at least try the firmware upgrade and save yourself, UPC, and the engineer some time.

    I'll give you four reasons:

Wouldn't know the first thing about how to upgrade the firmware of my new EPC 3925 (or any other router for that matter).

I also don't KNOW if that's the problem.

In my brief experience with UPC, I've noticed that they have MAC address identification for the Modems they send you, so I'd hate to mess something up with the modem and make it actually not work! (though I realise that a MAC address is usually hard coded into the chip, who know what I might mess up that they need for it to work)

Also, the engineer calls out for free, and the Guy at the 'Self Install' help-line recommended I use this option.
