Presumably this is a student project? Those two links do not work, but you have the original logo and a description of what Fair Trade is. This is about half your research done for you.

Solutions do not come ready-made, you will need to think about how your ideas develop, what information you have and what the thought processes are.

Analyse the original logo and see what it represents and what the thinking was. Read up the description of Fair Trade, look in a dictionary and see what Fair and Trade (plus the phrase 'fair trade') and other key words mean. I know you know what they mean, but you need a list of linked words in front of you to give you stepping off places for ideas.

Doodle lots of thumbnails with ideas, good, bad, any ideas. Then see if one grabs you and develop it.

Iv a similar project to do in college at the moment and its not that easy. I think one thing you should focus on is getting a decent workflow in place, not just jumping straight into illustrator or photoshop. One site thats been a great help for me is Brian Hoffs, Design Cubicle. Theres even step by step processes for certain companies logos. Heres the links:

The make my logo bigger cream gave me a laugh. Its a good way to let noobies like me know some common pitfalls to avoid. But yeah the site is great. Loads of topics covering a broad range of disciplines.
