They reckon he might need surgery on his back this time round. Not having a lot of luck when it comes to injuries.

I'm more concered about this back issue raising it's head again rather than the forearm. The forearm was a freak acident, but the back issue dogged him in college. Most back surgery has at best, a 50-50 chance of a successful outcome. No matter what though, I'll gladly take Gronk missing the first 6 games of the season. If it means he'll be fit and well and hitting peak form at the business end of the season.

Games 7,8,9 are Jets, Dolphins and Steelers, the latter two at home. Then its a bye week. Other than a tricky stretch weeks 4 and 5 where the Patriots play Atlanta and the Bengals away the schedule is very favourable.

Gronkowski is too good so young to risk over any of the games I've listed above, they can get by without him losing maybe one game by the time they play Denver week 12. If there's even a 1% doubt (I know many players are never 100% fit, but I mean any doubt over his post-surgical healing) about him i'd leave him take as much time as he needs no matter what the game ahead is.

Gronk needs to get fixed and to be rested as along as he needs this time round. Taking silly risks or trying to get him back into action too early could fook him. Fix him and let him heal for the maximum amount of time it takes and then make sure he is ready to go when ever that is. I think the Pats need to learn to build a lot less more around him but our strongest team without him and then go from there. When he comes back then you have a the strongest team possible with his addition.

That's the kind of sensible approach that we can only hope the Pats will follow.

They didn't give Hernadez much time last year, hopefully lessons were learned from that!

I see the Pats offered Kyle Love the option of taking a year out to deal with his diabetes and then see where he stood. Love wanted to keep playing regardless. No surprise that the media didn't report this offer made by to Love by the Pats.

Love will need to lose a shedload of weight to deal with his diabetes.
The pats obviously didn't see the need to force him to keep his eight high.

good luck to him in his future career and hopefully good health.

    Good news for Pats fans!
Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, whose left forearm has been surgically repaired four times due in part to a lingering infection, underwent surgery again Monday. This time, though, there's good news: A source with knowledge of the situation tells CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora that Gronk is out of surgery, a new plate has been put on his left forearm, and the infection is gone.
Last week, Gronkowski was reportedly dealing with chronic back pain and planned to see a specialist. USAToday.com's Mike Garafolo noted that while back surgery wasn't guaranteed, a decision would be made soon. Either way, the hope remains that the fourth-year tight end "would be back within the same time frame as his recovery from the arm injury."

Gronkowski is an integral part of the Patriots' offense, but Aaron Hernandez has emerged as one of the league's best pass-catching tight ends in recent seasons. While Gronk is on the mend, New England also has Jake Ballard, Michael Hoomanawanui and Daniel Fells on the depth chart.

No infection is very good news for a change and hopefully he'll get this latest back issue sorted out soon enough.

In other Pats news, another Rutger's player joins the rank. WR Mark Harrison is a big redzone target, measuring in at at 6-foot-3 and 231 pounds. Scouting reports have evaluated him as a strong redzone presence. Last season at Rutgers, Harrison caught 44 passes for 583 yards and six touchdowns. He's also known as good blocking WR. I'm liking this move away from runty WR's, high time Brady had some more big targets on the field.

They've also added former Notre Dame kicker David Ruffer. He landed 24/25 FG attempts last season. So that brings the roster up to its full compliment of 90.

Now lets hope the Pats let that arm heal 100% and then if his back has got issues get that fixed and let that heal 100%. I would rather have him fully fit and raring to go for the post season in this coming season than see him rushed in and injured and done again.

Pats have some solid young guys going into camp especially at WR. I'm hoping as we all are that Brady gels with a couple of these guys and they come out of camp with solid production.

I really can't remember a more exciting WR battle going into camp. for once, we really seem to have some real good prospects at WR. As long as they can swallow the playbook and let Brady do the rest.

Still not sure why they are plating Gronks arm. Does logic not dictate that the arm is better to let heal itself?

I'm no doctor but from what I got from reading it the infection had stopped the bone reforming properly. The plates are put in to hold the bone together while the bone grows. It seems the doctors are not confident the bone will grow without support. Im sure corvus can confirm as I know he has a medical background I think. :D

then would there be a danger of more infection with the plates there at a later date.

will the plates be eventually removed. Doesn't seem right to leave them there.

Some people react differently to plates. For the most part they remain on the bone indefinitely and cause no problems. Now again I am not a doctor but they are necessary for the bone to heal. The fact he broke the bone twice would suggest it was bad enough to require a plate to heal it. As for removing it as I said they generally stay there permanently and cause no problems but being mega rich and sports star im sure there are specialists who remove them for them when fully healed.

    fascinated by the Harrison signing.

I know there was the hotel room thrashing. I know his 2012 figures weren't stellar.

but he does seem to have a hell of a lot of upside.

Spot on TO, plates do help support and strenghten a fracture while it heals. And due to the freaky natue of Gronks second break and the vulnerable spot it's located at. I can gaurantee you this new plate is staying in permanantly. Any Ulnar/Radial (forearm bones) fracture located so close to the Elbow joint and Humerus (upper arm bone) will always be particularly vulnerable.

Everything should heal 100% no problem, but due to Gronks style of play, there is always the chance of another freaky forearm break. I personally wouldn't take any chances, so hopefully the Pats will try and find some sort of advanced forearm protectors for Gronk. Just to add a little bit of insurance.

will the plates be eventually removed. Doesn't seem right to leave them there.

Infection will usually crop out within the first 72 hours post OP. Commonly it can often be down to a simple immune system reaction to an inserted plate. Example - They insert a titanium plate - the body can have a localised inflammatory reaction to the titanium - recognising it as a 'foreign body'. In Gronks case, he hadn't a clue what was going on until he noticed puss coming from his arm.

Since Gronks infection appears to have cleared up, this new plate should settle in quiet nicely. I wouldn't expect another localised immune type reaction to occur. Because his immune system will have adapted to the titanium and shouldn't treat it as 'foreign body' in future.
will the plates be eventually removed. Doesn't seem right to leave them there.

Nope, the plates will be staying in. When a plate is inserted to stabilise and strenghten a fracture site. New bone growth around the plate, will embed the plate deep within the bone. Virtually making its removal impossible, but it's totally unnecesary to remove it anyway so it's not an issue.

I don't blame Kyle Love for not taking the unpaid year out for obvious reasons, but he really needs to get over it and accept it was a business decision. He's acting like a bitter, jilted lover the way he won't shut up since it happened. Build a bridge for Christ's sake.

Ya, he came across as a right little bitch if you ask me.

If you went from starting on the Pats to starting on the Jags because you were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you'd be pissed off too.

Takes have taken another former Patriot today, WR Jeremy Ebert. Although former Patriot is a bit of s stretch, did he ever play a game for you guys?

True but there is no need to be a little girl about it. He is still in the NFL so no point crying over spilled milk

Nope he was practice squad dropped went to Eagles practice squad then went back to Pats practice squad. Never really lived up to his college days with Pats. Pity he was class in college.

But why should he be pissed? The Pats told him to take a year out, manage his diabetes and then come back. He decided he wanted to keep playing, the Pats rightly chose to protect themselves.

I threw this up in the Weird and Wacky thread also but given Urlachers retirement this week this comes to mind and watching the Dan Patrick show Urlacher remembered the play :D Epic play. One of my faves of Tom Brady ever. One of the finest moments ever for Tom Brady. I love him so much...

When Patrick asked Urlacher, "Who was the quarterback or running back you didn't get, and you really wanted to?" it didn't take Urlacher long to remember one particularly embarrassing play against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. It was Week 12 of the 2006 season, and Brady -- who will hardly go down as the most mobile quarterback of all time -- managed to elude Urlacher in the open field on a fourth-quarter scramble. As you can see in the video above, it was an atypical play for several reasons.

"Brady always kicked our butts -- I don't think we ever beat [New England] when Tom Brady was the starting quarterback," Urlacher remembered. "He juked me out of my shoes in 2006."

As Patrick said, "Every white guy who couldn't move loved that play, because it was Brady who was doing it."
"Man, he really got me, and he's one of the best of all time," Urlacher concluded. "There were just some guys I had a hard time with."

I knew there would be better appreciation doing a double post and putting it in here. I think over the next couple of months before the season starts we should post up some of our fav Patriots moments. I have a few that come to mind instantly and will post later when I finish my study :D

Great idea TO, o.k. here we go..

Ye might think this is a strange one: week 14, 2001 and we have Brady the newbie playing against the Bills. He takes a massive hit from Nate Clements and his repsonse is just amazing. For me it shows a side to Brady that many overlook. And that is he is one tough son of a bitch. I really couldn't see many QBs back then or even today taking that hit the way Brady did. Oh yes and we won the game. :D

My fav moments not including Superbowl wins are a couple from the 16-0 season. I found the first two together on youtube,
