VRT - Why, why, why?

I have to say VRT literally makes me sick! I'm sure everyone else on here feels the same. Not to mention the fact that across the Irish sea driveway aesthetics are in a different league.

Had a quick comparison of a few cars. What they cost in uk (with current exchange rate) V price here. A bmw 335d for example, 62k to purchase in this mighty country but across the pond they can be picked up for 45k (£38k). Not to mention the higher road tax here, although that has been a little obscured with the CO2 system.

Surely VRT charges are madly unfair and the government should be doing something better than offering €1,250 for our 10 year old cars.

Apologies for my rant, and thanks again to boards for providing a medium for whining!
