Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Slow drivers on the N4

Just a bit of rant, yesterday evening I was on the N4 and got stuck in a 60 km/h convoy from Edgeworthstown to the Mullingar dual carriageway, a distance of around 15 miles. The culprit was a VW Polo doing ~60 km/h and braking every 10 secs (no exaggeration) There were two cars behind the Polo then two articulated trucks, then me. Then at least another 50 vehicles  With the domino effect from the Polo I wouldn't be surprised if cars at the very back of the line had to come to a complete stop at times.

And when the Polo driver did reach the dual carriageway guess what she did? Straight into the overtaking lane. Gets undertaken and blown out of it by the artics then moves over after some more horn blowing and headlight flashing.

She's far from the only one of course. I consider it good going if I can drive for more than 5 minutes on a main road without encountering some dawdler driving way under the speed limit. I pity truck drivers as it's much harder for a HGV to overtake these clowns.

The slow drivers thing is done to death but, ya, I'd lose the plot if my job depending on getting a load to particular place on time and I kept meeting these spacers

Do the traffic cops ever pull people up for this?

Would like to know that too. The thing I don't get (naievely perhaps) is that if you were a hungry traffic cop just cruising about the place, you would find an offence every 4 minutes on the road yet no-one seems to be getting pulled over. I reckon they just turn a blind eye to it all. I mean where would you start - it's everywhere.

I drive that road to and from work every day. I am always on that stretch in the morning between 8.30am and 9am. The same cars day in, day out drive at 60kmph and most days there is too much traffic coming the other way to pass out. Its extremely frustrating. During the snow these drivers were much worse - the road was clear enough to drive at 30 - 40 kmph, but a certain few drove the whole way from longford to Mullingar in first gear - the most dangerous gear to be in during snow. The sooner the dual carriage way is built the better. Its just as dangerous to be driving too slow as it is to be driving too fast IMO. !!!
