    hey John,

I bought a monitor audio center speaker Bronze BRCLR from you a few years ago and it doesn't seem to be performing correctly.
The issue is a bit odd but - dialog especially on scenes of shouting, becomes distorted - a lot like clipping.
What i find odd though is that it can happen at low as well as high volumes.

The issue is there all the time but only manifests itself under certain conditions.

I'm not sure what the warranty situation is and I really don't want to pump cash into a speaker that wasnt too expensive in the first place.

What do you suggest, all advice welcome.

    Techno,

BRLCR going wrong?? Almost (but not quite) impossible I would guess!

I know you know your AV - but I would be amazed if there was an issue with a BRLCR - for a few reasons - 1. they N E V E R go wrong and 2. it's really very unusual for ANY speaker to develop a fault itself - they can of course develop an issue due to external issues, ie being driven too hard or physically damaged (not that I am saying that in your instance Techno - again I know you are into your kit!

The 1st thing I would look at is the receiver or earlier components in the chain - unfortunately it's more probable that this is sending out a distorted signal to the BRLCR.

Check if the distortation is coming from all sources.

If so the try the centre speaker on one of the Right or Left front channels on simple stereo (don't connect another speaker to the centre channel as if there is an issue on the receiver you may fry another speaker )

If the BRLCR is still not 100% when connected as above - just try gently holding in the bass driver with your finger - if it works better I would assume that the driver is fubared - however again this is really unusual!

If we do all the checks and the driver is officially fubared then Monitor Audio do offer a 2 year warranty and we can get it swapped out for you if it's under warranty - if not MA price their replacement drivers really well for existing users and we will happily supply you one if you are happy to fit it yourself - if not drop me a PM and I'll get it repaired for you!

Phew - come back to me with news/demands/requests and I'll do my best to get it sorted for you painlessly.

Thanks for the lengthy reply John.

You kind of confirmed my own thoughts as well.

There is always a slight possibility that it was driven too hard but unlikely.

I will try out what you suggested. I did mean to do some trouble shooting myself but I was too lazy to start into the jungle of cables at the back of my stand!

I'll look into this and let you know how I get on

    Thanks again!
