Anyone else getting into this album as much as i have?

The production seems so unique so distorted and chaotic yet at the same time so pleasant to the ears.

    This is my favorite track

Would anyone be able to hazard a guess as to how they get this kind of sound? Ive been playing around with some lofi efx and saturators to try to achieve something similar but am falling somewhat short.

I think the main source that contributes to the overall sound is really the reverb. You get that kind of warehouse vibe. There's very little high end detail so that will emphasize the bass a lot as well. I'd say theres some distortion on a select few sounds which gives the impression that its gritty but most of the sounds seem clean (I think).

the absolute key to their sound is their reverbs and delays.

stick a bitcrushed 303 emulator into a reverb and watch what happens.

looking at the gear list, it's definitely the re 201 contributing to a big part of the sound.
they go for around 400-500 euro but the boss re 20 digital remodel is around 150-200, how similar it sounds is the question.

tracks on aphex twin's (amazing) ambient works used the space echo heavily

    eg

    and so on...

    They're pretty cool alright.

You'd (hopefully) know JT - Is there an easy way of figuring out the bpm in relation to what it might be? The BPM's of the delays are 25 - 200.

Know that theres fk all tweaking that you can do to them.. but would like to know if theres a logical way of approaching it - rather than just trying one here & there?

I've just been trying to select them based on multiples of my DAW's bpm.

1/2ish my bpm for 1/2 notes.. etc..

Would love to get some IR's of the Space Echo Reverb - Must have a look & see if anyone has done any.

erm, i presume by bpm he's done stuff like quarter notes at 120, eighth notes at 120, eighth dotted at 120 and so on and so forth yeah??

I haven't looked at them yet, but you could draw a chart I guess.

Here the low down from the site. They're single files done at different bpms.

Nowt as fancy as that ; )

The pack contains 176 IRs. All of them have the same pattern and the same sound but the speed goes from 25 bpm to 200 bpm so you can use these delays in any type of rhythm and style. The samples below are drums only but the IRs are good for any type of sound, not just drums. Enjoy!

I like that track. I like the way it doesn't have hi-hats.

An important thing for that sound is to have very low kicks underneath the higher kick. You can make a broken beat pattern under the higher kick and it'll rubble along. Or you can have all beats broken. The interplay of the kicks can make it's sound like there's a low rumbling bassline there.

For your highs you can put a sample of something - a crowd or something, noises and then put it through lots of reverb and then you can put a side chain comp on it and side chain it with some kick - even a broken beat kick - that will give it a little bit of rhythmic flutter.

    Lots of reverb.

seems to be very influenced by the Basic Channel sound. i've been trying to figure out how they (BC) created that beautiful deepdubtech sound for a while now. seems like Sandwell District have mastered it. lovely stuff. deep bass, constantly tweaked reverbs and subtle syncopation seem to be the key to the sound.

Deepchord, Substance & Vainquer, Fluxion, Marko Furstenberg are all in that deeply satisfying realm...

    Mika Vainio
    Pan*Sonic
    BV Dub
    Echochord
    Sven Weisemann
    Quantec

are some more names worth sifting through, who use the heavily dubby sound. Sandwell generally have more grit than a clean dubby sound, though I havn't heard all of this new album. Mika Vainio would be a noted trailblazer in this area, possibly worth looking into. Basic channel would have been more clean/precise/etc to my mind.

Thanks for the above links to echoes/reverbs guys. Much appreciated

Maurizio is a Basic Channel alias and is probably one of the most ripped off sounds in techno:
