Wow these two are not very similar at all, the pyromancer is the most basic of all mage souls. Just a standard glass cannon, high damage nukes and aoe.

The Stormcaller is an aoe specialist, they use lightning spells to build static and frost spells to build hypothemia and each works off the other to provide varying effects. Its actually a really interesting build.

The devil is in the details :)

Being honest i wasnt aware of such a mechanic, i stand corrected.
Much to learn it seems, looking forward to the OB next week and possibly a purchase if i enjoy.

That sounds...awesome. Definitely going to have to try that.

On another note, when does early access start when you pre-order it? I'm going to have to give the beta a miss i think, but will pre-order it this week.

I think i recall someone on general chat ingame saying the 24th of this month, not sure how true that is.
I think US get the full release on 1st March with Europe on the 4th.

  • Registered Users Posts: 261 ✭✭GHOST MGG2

the 24th of february for the head start event for those who pre-ordered the game.
Some mod on the rift forums said they changed the release date to the 1st of march worldwide and not to the 4th of march for europe as was originally stated.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,713 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

So the OB starts 15th and ends the 21st then if one pre orders they can play the full game from 24th.
I wonder can we preorder after the OB ends?

I actually had a lot of fun in rift the last day i played it last sunday, i got to lvl 22 i think or 21, got some cool looking summons from the necro tree. The rift's that opened in gloamwood were insane, and a small group of the other faction snuck in and were trying to gank people. But the quests still bore the hell out of me.

is there any shape shifting class in this game tho  i think if it had that id be sold on rift.

I think I saw someone in the shape of a wolf.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

Probably the Druid soul in the Cleric class, usually shape shifting in fantasy falls into their region.

    It's a quest
Spoiler you get cursed and turned into a Wolf for 4 minutes

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Da Bounca

He was in the battlegrounds when I saw him. He must have taken the quest then joined the queue. Can you cast etc while in wolf form? That would be gas, take the quest each time before you battleground. Then abandon it after, and do it again.

You can but ALL guards are immediately hostile to you!

Anyone know anything about endgame content?
I tend to stay clear of official foums of most game.
What i played of the beta got better the more i played, questing wasnt so great but the combat and classes were very nice.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 Lorenzomedici

The questing is mostly trash, kill 10 of X or talk to person A and then return to person B etc.

Later on, around level40+ the quests are mostly "story" tagged and focus on the lore with various appearances by prominent figures from the games backstory and there is some dialogue and voice over but its mostly just fluff.

This is nothing new though, questing is always garbage and its only something we do to level with. Rifts, Invasions, Dungeons and Warfronts all provide exp also if you need a break from quests or want to avoid them completely.

    To answer 2 questions asked above;
    1. No class can shapeshift, there are numerous items that transform you temporarily.
    2. End game comprises of Expert dungeons, which are hardmode versions of the dungeons you can do during your leveling up process. Expert modes include extra areas of the dungeons with more bosses. 20man raid dungeons, which are self explanatory and Raid Rifts, which can only be opened by specific "planar lures" and create a Raid difficulty rift with equal level of challenge. For pvp there is a massive "pvpve" warfront that is somewhat similar to oldschool alterac valley for those familiar with vanilla WoW.

For anyone still waiting to try Rift or those who have only tried the early stuff, the game is really generic and almost boring at the start(1-15) but gets really really good later on. I just hit level50(the end cap) last night on alpha and i'm really impressed with the game as a whole. Can't wait for launch now.

What Instances did you do? Guardians or Defiants.

Realm of the Fae for the Guardians is nice for a starting instance nothing outstand but the last area in it is quite nice.

Darkening Deeps is fantastic. Played it about 5 times.
First Boss is tank adds while he throws bombs at you, Seconds Boss is a Giant Werewolf that you have to keep out of the moonlight as he charges a insane AOE nuke. 3rd Boss is Maexxna and the last is Iron Council

Thanks for that, im certainly keen to play the OB next week and possibly purchase.
    How did you play lastnight?
The closed beta has ended and the only live action i was aware of is next weeks open beta?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,560 ✭✭✭Ivan

@Stev_O: Maexxna on steroids maybe. She hits like a truck for that level, randomly cocoons one target (except the tank) that has to be cleared by the dps or can be avoided by Line of sight shenanigans if you're a good healer. Then she spawns little spider adds that rape face, at 50%. She's a gigantic cockblock imho. The hardest boss in the instance and she's been nerfed several times in the past few weeks.
And I think I prefer Deepstrike Mines (the level 24 Defiant instance) and the fact that you can do a zone wide quest every time you enter regardless of your faction is pretty awesome to me.

@Dcully: He's in the Alpha too.

@Dcully: He's in the Alpha too.

I thought it was over and there was literally no more chances to play until next weeks OB?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,216 ✭✭✭Kur4mA

There isn't unless you got an Alpha invitation at some point to bug test. Beta is finished until the Open Beta next week.

Are you guys planning on rolling on the same server and maybe forming a boards guild?
Ill probably pre order the game during the OB.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,560 ✭✭✭Ivan

I know Tr1pod, Lorenzo and probably Funky and I will all roll on the same server. Potentially some more of our non-Boardsie mates too. Not sure what server to roll on though, but once we can figure out what the server names will be when it goes live; we will pick one and post here. That said, we will almost assuredly be rolling on PvP, because we're crazy like that. :)

Oh and I'm glad you've come around. :)

The last day of the closed beta i really enjoyed it and could see its potential.
Im fully expecting to enjoy the OB more and preorder.
Ive watched vids and read quite a bit about rifts, it seems one could literally level up via rifting alone.
Saw one vid of a high level rift and it looked awesome.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,713 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Pretty good discussion about rift here, interesting topics and lots of valid points.

Well I d/loaded the beta and sat down around 6:30 last night 'for a quick look'. Had to peel myself away from the mouse 5 hours later.

FFXIV beta was my last pre release experience, and that was excruciatingly painful. Rift blows it away with its polish and performance.

The game feels incredibly complete. The graphics are lush (well for me they are, a WOW player). Got a fairly new rig so playing on Ultra settings, no slowdown even during hectic rift battles. Even more impressive, there was NO lag that I experienced. Even during a rift battle with probably 60 people involved. No queuing either.

Battle feels really visceral and solid (I'm levelling a tank), you can really feel the blows landing, and the sound and effects really emphasise the contact.

Ok, its early days, and the real test will be when people start paying, but I have to say I'm really impressed.

Picked up a few minor bugs which have been reported by the way, so it’s not perfect, but no game is.

I'm thinking of getting this. Not exactly bored with wow but don't have a huge amount to do when not raiding.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,713 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Like ArthurG i had to peel myself away lastnight.
Rift after rift followed by invasions for hours, great craic.
    Im definitely going to preorder.

Managed to get in some pvp via the battlegrounds type thingy on my champion.
I normally shy away from pvp but it was a blast, maybe because i topped the kills table in each of the 3 battles, charge, kick, and slash away at the clothies with my big 2 hander sword, very enjoyable :D

But to me rifting is special, this really is dynamic pve.
At one stage there were rifts allover the place and invasions coming from all 4 sides attacking our little village,we seemed totally doomed until what seemed like every player in the zone easily a few hundred came to fight with us and eventually after well over an hour long battle we fought them off.
Totally epic stuff non stop action, i can only imagine this going down on a pvp server when the opposite factions players can get involved too

Im hopping between my pyromancer, assassin and champion,im enjoying all three.
God knows how ill decide on a main.

@ Ivan - sign me up to your guild or indeed any boards guild forming :)

Question: is a rogue in it proper sneaky like a sub rogue in wow?

Also is there anything like a fury warrior in it?

Rogues stealth doesn't break until you attack so yeah. It's quite a nice class as a whole.

All characters are human'esque based. Elves, Dwarfes, Humans and the Jolly Brown Giant.

I believe the Paragon is similar in that its a dual wielding warrior, heres a quick video of some paragon gameplay.
