Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Folks,
Looking to upgrade my bike for the summer I am in my early forties and cycling for fitness and to do a few tours and maybe a couple of races during the year.
I have a budget of 1500 Euro or thereabouts.A smooth gear change is the most important thing as well as a bit of comfort. Have looked at a Planet X and seems to be the best value euro to components wise ,can anyone suggest anything better or is the Planet X the bike to go for ?

what size bike are you after.if it's 51cm fit a person from 5.2 to5.7 i have just the bike full carbon all dura ace top notch.;)

Have a look at Ribble bikes. There customer service may not be fantastic but imo a nicer bike. I love the look of The Grand Fondo.

Shimano 105 so should be good for the gear changes
Steel should make for a comfy ride on the tours
Unless you want a Carbon frame but if your doing it for the fitness then steel is a nice choice.

It was the Ribble Sportive/Race (Black/Red) with 10sp Veloce with Keo easy pedals and Pro-Lite Como wheels that came to €1450 ish inc del.

I was about to recommend this bike.

I bought one a few months ago, 10 speed Veloce, Keo Easy's, Fulcrum 7 wheelset and I'm very happy with it. I did change the saddle afterwards to a fizik as the stock saddle was like a rough piece of mahogany.

It came to just over £Stg1000 not including delivery. Great VFM.

I have a 2009 Cayo105 and it is superb. A good looker, fast, light and comfortable......enough;)

I'm not sure about the wheels on the 2011 versions, mine has Shimano rims.

Planet-X with SRAM Red is just what you're after - you won't get a better deal than this. I have the Ultegra version and it's, as the Aussies say, a beaut! Actually, that's not strictly true, they're pig ugly, but they're a great bike.
