Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Classic bit of slipshod, lazy, dishonest Irish journalism.

The Archbishop said the Catholic Church could show its concern was by "doing all that we can to learn from this experience of evil, and so to try to be sure that it never happens again".

That gets translated into a headline of "Abuse won't happen again: Pope".

I don't think you are supposed to take the statement that literally.

For example, when air crash investigators identify a flaw in a plane and put in place measures to ensure the flaw that caused the crash "never happens again" I don't think they are trying to make a statement of infallible proof. Replying to them How can you say that! would be being rather pedantic.

Same principle here. This article seems to be about the Church attempting to put in place checks and balances and an air of reporting that was absent in previous years.

How sincerely you take that move (I wouldn't hold out great hope given the fundamental nature of the RCC) it doesn't mean that what is being claimed is overly unreasonable.

In fairness, I think it's not even the journalist that's to blame here, but whatever editor chose the headline. Most of the article isn't even related to the Pope's comments.

Are you trying to tell me that my policy of only reading the headlines in newspapers is not foolproof?
