    Hi,

I just moved here a couple of weeks ago and I am completely new to the area. I was just wondering if anybody knows of or could recommend any clubs/societies/things to do in Dundalk?
Kind of getting bored of evening tv!!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    First of all, welcome.

What kind of things are you into exactly? There's plenty of sports clubs of various disciplines if you're into that kind of thing. Martial Arts/Kickboxing and such are very popular at the moment around town and the few clubs hosting classes are getting bigger all the time.

There's a drama club based out of the town hall too if that would float your boat.

Or you could sample a nice beer in any of the ridiculous amount of local bars and lounges on offer. Personal favourite pubs are Kennedy's beside the train station and the Bartender in the centre of town on Park Street (across from the Imperial Hotel).

You staying long-term or just passing through?

The spirit store is good for live music.

There are various castles and things around dundalk if you can drive (maybe wait til the weather improves) .. castle roche, cuchulains castle, cuchulain's standing stone, blackrock beach. The town also has good walk ways like the Navvy bank.

There's a casino and plenty of amusements (the best one is Brannigans in park street)

O'Fiach college does some good one evening a week courses.

I'd also recommend popping out to Carlingford if you get a good day weather-wise. It's a nice drive and the scenary and village out there is pretty good.

There's historic sights to look at in Carlingford and there's also the adventure centre which offers kayaking, hiking, horse-riding etc.

You can also go horse riding in Ravensdale and there's other things like clay pigeon shooting and things around the area too - Ardee has clay pigeon shooting for example.

+1 to Kennedys! It's really nice for lunch too. Only problem is it's usually a bad place for parking unless you want to pay €2 to park in the train station.

As for pubs.. My personal favourite is Brubakers - I really went off the Bartender.

Friday, Saturday and Monday there's dog racing out in the racing stadium on the Racecourse Rd. There's the Sportsbowl with its bowling alley, kid's play area and restaurant. The swimming pool down on Alphonsus Rd. There's a few gyms too. Oh and the Imc cinema:). If you're interested in history and traditional Irish music there's the Oriel Visitor's Culture Centre on the Carrick Road opposite the Harp Lager brewery. I don't know the closing hours though I know they do hold occasional trad evenings in it.

Thanks a million to everyone that replied.
I'm here for the next 6 months at least and I think that should be enough to keep me occupied!

Thanks again, it is much appreciated.
