    Hi

Just wanted to make everyone aware that several lads were trying to gain access to apartments in the cresent tonight by pretending to be pizza delivery men and covering the camera on the buzzer

They got into one block but got frightened off.

Also there were several cars broken into last night up by the crescent so do keep an eye out.

I also spotted four lads with dogs and torches through the estate that just didn't belong here and two other hooded lads lurking around in the dark this evening.

Everyone make sure doors and windows are locked and closed and please keep an eye on your neighbours property, remember it could be your home that gets broken into so awareness will prevent theft.

If you see any suspicious activity please report it to the gardai straight away

    Great advice matt.

Seen a few heads acting the maggot around the court last night. Throwing tennis balls at cars. Testing the alarm systems no doubt.

    Cheers Damo,

Just think were living in tough crappy times and don't want it any worse by having your houses broken into.

I notice a house alarm is going off for the last while, I hope they didn't find anywhere to break in!!!!

Plenty of people out walking there dogs now, although the alarm going off is a bit weird seeing as there is zero wind at the minute.

as I Said in a previous thread there were a spate of break ins to cars etc on Friday night and there was an abandoned car left on Saturday night in Seabourne

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Hi,

Just so people keep aware, there has been more attempted break ins last night in Charlesland. I guess it really is just another reminder for people to stay safe, vigilant and review the usual advices in regards deterrents and house security.

Where are these attempted break ins happening - houses or apt's etc?
Getting nervous now, my other half away at the moment and no alarm on house.:(

Minka, as the previous posters have stated, if you stay vigilant with your personal security (i.e. making sure doors and windows are secure), the likelihood of someone breaking in is actually very low. There are so many properties in the Charlesland area that these low lifes aren't going to waste their time on somewhere that needs a bit of effort to get into and which may result in a bit of commotion. The main thing to remember is that these guys are generally opportunists so you don't want to give them the opportunity. If your on your own and are a little tense, I'd recommend getting a few contact numbers of neighbours etc who you can call if you're spooked by something. You'll be surprised how easy it can be to scare people away - a light coming on, a door opening etc etc. Also, report any "unsavoury types" to the Gardaí, even if it is just a hunch/gut feeling.

Cheers Tiradon, only moved here pretty recently, so don't really know any of my neighbours yet, but will keep an eye out for anyone hanging around.....

I've purchased extra locks for my apartment just to be sure. You can't be too careful out there at the moment.

My friend's mum had her apartment broken into yesterday in Charlesland.

I'm not sure what time but daytime anyway.

They live on the 3rd floor.

Apparently they REMOVED the lock to gain entry through the front door.

The place was ransacked but they didn't find anything much to steal.

I knew there was a thread here about break ins so just thought I would let you all know.

    Where were they living?

Gotta be either the crescent or the fairways?

    Fairways

This completely justifies me putting extra locks on my apartment door. Trying to get Eircom phone watch installed also. You can't be too careful - I don't trust anyone who rings the doorbell.

I don't answer the doorbell. It's down to pure laziness on my part. If anyone is coming over they usually ring/text first so I'm expecting them.

The problem in The Fairways is one of people being nice and holding the door for anyone else approaching. You don't know if the person is a resident or not but it's hard to be blatantly ignorant and close the door in someones face.

Mailed Ballymore this afternoon, shant be holding my breath waiting for a response.

(would getting in touch with NAMA yield a quicker result?!!)

It really isn't 'blatantly ignorant'. Any genuine person will understand that we all have to be much much more aware at the moment and will understand and respect the fact that you cannot let in anybody not personally known to you. Please don't be embarassed, it is much more important to maintain security. There have been four break-ins in the apartments in the last five weeks. It is getting scary so please don't let anyone in. You sound nice, but you will have to toughen up!

I hear a 2 bed house in the park was broken in to over the weekend..

Not sure how true this is but it was said that a hacksaw blade was used to cut the latch off the front window....

What are these locks made of...? Chocolate...?

Think of installing a recording CCTV camera back and front, a few shops I see are now selling them..

Should be a good deterent as well as the chance of catching the feckers..

Would an alarm not be better or do you have one already, if they put on a balaclava a camera won't be much use.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,468 ✭✭✭matt-dublin

they're all only deterrents at the end of the day.

they're going to get in regardless if they want to.

As we all stated before, keep an eye out, report anything suspicious to the gardai and lock your doors behind you.

If you are thinking of a camera installation, here's someone nearby that specialises in it.

    Richard Flood 086 173 7919 http://www.floodcctv.com

I see there's a special offer on his site - I have nothing to compare it against so can't tell if it's good value for money or not!

These incidents are not just isolated to Charlesland. There has been a massive increase in burglaries across all of North Wicklow over the last 2 years. Hate to say it...cliche...sign of the times. Interesting stats in the People this week. I would say, invest in decent locks (I've put a second one on our front door), alarm systems and most of all....without being completely paranoid.....just be vigilant for yourself and your neighbours.

Where are these scumbags coming from, are they living locally or bussing themselves into the area for their crime spree?

I'd say a bit of A a bit of B, I know when our house was broken into 18months ago, my laptop turned up in gorey.

Was at home today before i went to college and there was 2 men going around the estate ringing door bells and looking in windows, the bf opened the door when he noticed them and they came up with some story about looking for a lost dog, they def werent locals, had northside accents
