    Hi folks,

I have a Philips HTR5204 5.1 Amp and speakers. I'm happy enough with the speakers as they sound good and are perfect for the size of the room but I'm looking to upgrade the amp to something with HDMI that can decode Dolby True HD & DTS HD MA. I'm using optical at the minute and my current amp does the basic dolby digital 640k fine but the DTS HD core that runs at 1.5mbs causes terrbile audio sync delays, very annoying.

Anyway, I assumed philips might have a successor to this amp but I can't find anything. I've had a look at the YAMAHA RXV367 and it seems it ticks all the boxes on a budget. However,on richersounds.ie the key features says it can decode DTS HD and True HD but everyone else says it can't! Can you let me for sure if it does or does not decode these?

Finally, my current speakers have plastic colour coded plugs on the end of each cable that connect into the philips amp. Would I be right to assume that if I get a new amp I can chop these connectors off, strip the cables back a bit and connect them to a new amp?

    Cheers,

    Andy

    Andy,

apologies for the delay getting back to you - those features are unticked on the site - and you are correct - the 367 is not DTS /True HD - you need to go to the RXV467 to get those features (however the 467 is now a finished line for us). The RXV567 is now reduced to £249.95 and has both Dolby True HD & DTS HD Master audio - it's super value at £249.95.

On the cable issue - yep you will have to cut off the plastic clips on your existing speakers to get them to fit into the 4MM sockets on your Yamaha.

Give me a shout if you would like me to pop one of those into reserved for you - we have lots in stock & ready to ship,

    ATVB,
