Best first car for insurance

My brother (25) is looking to get his first car (no previous driving experience)

Was looking up insurance quotes for him and tried the usual small cars but have found cheaper quotes for the Kia Rio and Fiat Stilo than for the fiesta, punto etc

He's not going to spend a lot on the car as he only hopes to keep it for a year. Any other cars I should look at for him?

Ring around to get the best quote available

It's not just the size of the engine that comes into it, but how many claims the insurance company gets for that car.

Obviously, as every other learner is in a punto/polo/etc, there's likely to be a good few claims per year for those cars.

Something small engined, and uncommon should get a fairly cheap quote.
