Means Tested JSA

    Hi.

So everyone under 23 and living at home is subject to a means test. I am currently being means tested by 60 euro a week. Last Friday I turned 23, meaning I am no longer subject to a means test.

Can anyone tell me, will I get this 60 euro a week back automatically this Friday? Or will I have to inform the social welfare office that I'm now 23? Do I have to re-apply altogether? If anyone knows the procedure in these circumstances I would love to know and possibly save myself a trip to the city centre.

    Thanks!

As far as I know EVERYONE on JSA is means tested not just under 23's. Living at home will only affect you if you are under 25, in which case your parents income will be taken into account.

I'm pretty sure it's actually under 23's that are affected by living at home, not under 25's.

Well, a relative did not get full payment until she reached 25. I, like you, thought it was different. But she has told me there are no means assessed against her for living at home and claiming.

SW refer to it as "benefit and privelege" as in up to 25 it is fair to say that if you are living at home and not working your parents will not see you without a roof over your head or food on the table, especially if they have jobs. everybody on JSA has been means tested, regardless of age.
