Surveyor or Sweep?

Hi, While decorating the kitchen we discovered a fantastic old fireplace under the wallpaper. Will look great with a solid fuel stove in there hopefully. However, how do we know if the chimney is capable of taking a fire. Do I get a surveyor in or a chimney sweep? Any advice gratefully accepted.
