Day Drives-Cork Area

Looking for some advice please. I a hoping the bring my mother out for a Sunday drive this weekend as she broke her wrist and could day with a few hours out of the house. I am looking for any beauty spots even if they are a bit off the beaten track.A nice area where we could park the car and go for a walk. I will be travelling from the North Cork area so someplace near the coast would be nice in East Cork area or any recommended forest walks.

Glenbower Woods, Killeagh.

Coast road to Clonakilty (Kinsale - old head - Garretstown - Timoleague - Clon). go to the Model railway village in clon. Then continue coast road to Rosscarbery (nice drive, around by Galley head and castlefreke). Then just take the main road back to Cork from there .

If you're stuck for time, just go as far as Clon (about 1.5hr drive). Castlefreke abbey is cool though, it's a nice drive through the woods there out to the strands.


All weather dependent of course.

Mahon Falls between Dungarvan and Waterford city is very pretty but its about 65 miles from Cork city.

Blarney Castle has really pretty grounds for walking. You can also tour the Blarney House (not the castle, it is the part where people live).

That was my first idea too. Take the left turn at the old thatch and drive on a few minutes.
There is also the walk at the top of camden in crosshaven. Beautiful views of the inner and outer harbour
