I just did it in 3:50 minutes. Im happy with it but I had the first 500m in 1:30 but got tired fast. It was after a few hours lifting weights so might do better next time.

    Good work Keith!

I don't think any of us have done a true flat, flat out piece.

I always say I could have done more or was doing legs just yesterday etc.:D

The big fear is that if fresh would we go much better - maybe not! LoL

Interesting post, I've often wonder if anyone had tried to figure this out. You need this calculator to figure out your avg watts

    http://www.concept2.com/us/interactive/calculators/pacecalculator.asp

Can someone see how accurate this is? Row for 60 minutes and see if your watts match up :)

I saw a 60 min piece described as an hour of power! More like and hour of discomfort with a high chance of butt numbness!:D

Is it just me but does the erg time seem to go slower - 20 mins on the erg feels longer than 20 mins on the bike!

    I know 20 mins is 20 mins but...LoL

Hour of power me arse! An hour of power is watching Leinster kick some Scottish butt with a cold beer in my hand. :D

I think time must be related to pain. :pac:

Just did another 5k just now.

Like treading water - it was uncomfortable after about 300m and after about 2000m it was distressing as for the last 1000m....

I think part of my problem apart from a lack of fitness is hitting myself with the handle in the sternum the odd time - that is me being lazy but it helps with the nausesous feeling.:)

Anyway I did 18m50.4 about 4 seconds faster than last time but those 4 seconds were earned.

    9m29 1st 2.5k
    9m21 2nd 2.5k

Happy to still be doing negative splits!

I'm off now to feel sorry for myself!:D

I am still confident of getting sub 18m for 5k it will just take a bit of time!

    Good on you mate!:)

After having an extraction tooth (1st time ever) I think I will be better able to rationalise the pain on the rowing machine - at least I'll be in control of it!:D

Another 5k tomorrow and hoping for better than the last time.

    Gave 500m a shot.
    Time: 1:33.9

Damper set to 6 and drag factor was 139.
    SPM was 38

It's a PB, but I expected it to be faster. But I've only been on the rower once this year.
I started off strong hitting 1:25 in the early stages and settling into 1.30-32 for the first half. Then faded a bit. I was hoping to pull hard the last 70m to catch the pace boat but didn't have the power.

    Technique correction I think.

Just looking at the irish 500m records.
If I can get to 75kg, I've a shot at the LW record :D
It's currently 1.33, I rowed 1.36 in jan. Should be good for 1.33 now.

So getting back to this. I got withing a second of the LW record. But checked the website and somebody broke it in the last two weeks. It's now 1:29.9
    New goal so.

Warmed up with 1000m easy pace,
Around 20 S/M, resistance set to 5. Just under 5 minutes.
Found it easy to keep strokes down going so light.

Then took a few minutes and went for a timed attempted
    1000m - 3:40.1, exactly what I aimed for.
Started at 1.47 pace, and crept up slowly, kept an eye on average pace. A little bit of a push to get it under 1:50

There's more there, maybe sub 3.30

Did 3.50 today, happy enough as I have not used the rower in a long time. Drag Factor was 128.

With practice I am sure I could get it down but not sure I want to practice :pac:

Saw this thread yesterday so gave the 1,000 meters a go in the gym last night.
    3:22.2
Went out too hard and died a death in the final 300m with the pace dropping out to a split of nearly 1:50. Took a long time after to catch my breath and be able to stand up, painful stuff. Go to the gym a good bit but don't know of any other exercise that can cripple you in under 4 mins. Will try to improve on the above in the coming weeks, sub 3:20 should be possible I hope

Can i ask for a few general question about this thread?

I used to use the rowing machine once/twice a week for few months. I would try and knock out 2000 meters in 8 minutes at the end of my work out - not particularly tough but it the last 500 would always seem to take forever!

Sometimes i used to go all out for a minute or so and watch the meter counter - i noticed that it would only go down so fast and no matter how hard and fast i rowed and i couldnt get it to go down any faster - its like the counter was only capable of going down at a certain speed.

I always placed the setting to 10, and used to same rower - i forget the make but ive seen it in many different gyms and i think its quite a common one.

So was i just not fit/fast enough? Maybe the type of rower i was different?

Pulling fast on a rower doesn't mean you'll go further and in your case you've just proved that. You need to push and pull harder. In fact by going faster you're probably going slower. Next time try going slower but really push hard with your legs, you'll go faster but you'll probably die. :D

Just joined a new gym and aim to at least better my current SB on this.

jugger0 has set the bar very high now.

There is a C2 league in the new gym some hench specimen set a time of 6m37 for 2k as they say:

I feel your pain Jugger0 and at least you are getting faster - .2 second don't seem like much but at this level it is.

    What is your PB?

Just seeing this thread and might try and get in on the act.

I go to the gym 2x a week and row 2000m each time. Originally it was to beat 9mins and then continue beating my time. I've lost track but over the weekend got 8:46 (4:23/1k).

I don't think I've ever even been at a pace to do 1k in <4mins - maybe this thread will give me some drive.
