Last thing I did on the erg was 7809m in 30mins early on Monday morning last.

It was surprisingly not that hard and I can see a case for me hitting 8000m in 30mins soon!

How this will translate into a hot 1000m is another question!:D

    LOL!

Work this one out if given a choice between a 1k and a 30minute stint - I'm pretty sure I'd go for the 30mins!:D

Tomorrow is Wednesday mate - best of luck!:D

That's a great time. I beat my PB this morning by 4 seconds getting 3.14, mainly thanks to The Guvnor's advice on the previous page.

    Nice work Liam.

When doing say 2k's the goal is to always drop say a second per 500m or more so next goal is 7m51.

That said you'll probably blast past 7m40 in no time!:)

Great time - what level are you using at that speed and how many s/m did you start out at? I always seem to hover around the 40 s/m mark - any lower and I don't think I'd get the same sort of times.

Sound bud! I use level 10, at the start i was getting 25 spm but my time started to slip so i started going faster and faster... going low spm feels a bit weird tbh.

Jugger what are you pulling when you start?

Do you go out at sub 1m30 and then try and hang on or what?

Asking as most would start at a higher than 25spm!

I started with a low spm pulling below 1:30, had to increase spm by a lot to finish with a decent time tho! was just trying it out as my spm is usually pretty high for the whole 1k.

Why are you guys doing your ergs with the fan on 10? You should set a drag factor of 130 (or 120 if a lightweight guy). 120 or 115 for women. They are the settings that rowers would use for their tests so if you want to compare times at all (especially for those doing the erg championships), you should be consistent with the drag factors.

When in a rowing completion you set the drag factor to what you like. This might seem a little bit hard to understand but the reason why some of them like to row on 10 is because that's what they feel gets the best out of them. Why do you think you're able to change the setting in the first place.

    Steve,

I take your point but if some guy sets the fan to 10 and thrashes Waddell or Drysdale then that is all that counts on the erg.

If comparing rowers for an actual boat then yes more rules as to the drag or damper setting makes a bit of sense.

However individual rowers can gear their oars to suit themselves which may not be the same for every man in the boat etc.

There are some great times being posted here and if the technique is good super, if not - not a major issue.

ATM - I am confident Jugger would hand me my ass on the erg and I would hopefully do likewise on the water after he capsizes!:D
