Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Exactly Mandy - the good old days are gone indeed. IE. the days of semi state bodies (like when you worked there 6 years ago).
In a few posts you have come to reliase the "Nothing has changed" scenario is no good old day's are gone. The reality is though that you don't realise just how much things have changed. Your basing your arguement on the fact that you used to work in that job.

At least I have something to base my case on.

Seeing they have no answer I will summarise for you.

    Pre flight briefing
    Board - security checks
    Greet passengers - announcements
    Demo
    Take off
Out with bar and food trolley
    Duty free
    Collect empties
    THAT IS END OF SERVICE
    Secure cabin for landing
Say bye bye to all pax
Clean cabin for return flight (cross seatbelts and pick up visible litter)

    AND REPEAT

    And First Aid if required
    And Emergency Aid if needed

    Big swing!

    AL staff:
Omg we're so special and talented. We should have more rights than other airlines.

I have to travel to the uk frequently with work, I don't like flying but have to and only use Aer Lingus. I have always found their crew to be professional and friendly and they certainly don't deserve this obvious bullying from management. I hope this is resolved quickly and my next flight is not on a hired in carrier.

    You 2 are hilarious :-))

The soonere O'Leary gets his hands on the rest of the shares and shakes that place up, the better.

The you all can really complain for a reason.

    Why are you in EI?

Yet another example of staff being misled by unions...the union leaders adorned with their Hugo boss suits convince the troops to fight. this is because they see the subs revenues fall and fall. They need to be seen as doing something to justify their EURO 100000 plus salaries.....

The union heads are as bad or worse than the cowens and lenihans of Ireland!!! Why don,t EI members stop subs and refuse to line the Hugo boss pockets until resolution is achieved? Make them work for it!

I was in EI when it was the good old days.
I was also in it when it was the not so good.
It was still a picnic job in the latter days.

You'll do well to hold your own on this thread
And your union is doing a lousy job of getting their message out there.

But good luck anyway, you have more public support then you think

To be honest i wouldn't lower myself to their standards,we are getting more and more support each day,its not about who wins its about having a work/
    life balance.

    thanks for your support

IMO it suits EI members to strike instead of just going to work like the rest of us.

Possibly in the swords/malahide area where half of EI live, i don't know one person who supports this.
Why would they- some kind of socialist brotherhood born out of the recession?

How many times does it have to be explained..WE ARE NOT ON STRIKE..we are going to work everyday and they wont allow us to work unless we sign a new contract of employment that was not in the binding arbitration agreement.I will not nor will i ever be bullied into signing my life away.

Okay you're probably going to lose your job.

    That's too bad :(

It's not pretty finding a new job in a recession you know.

And definitely not one as easy as you had.

    Good luck to you.

    :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 176 ✭✭mandy30

Looks like the Union have led the staff over the cliff on this one.

No public sympathy , no air time ,no going back for years of discussions and clarifications of every minutiae of conditions.

Those days are gone but seems the war horses in the cabin crew didn't see it coming.

EI should go for the jugular and clean out all the malcontents and leave the job for those who actually want to work instead of cribbing.

There is a rotten core in there, if past industrial relations issues are any indicator

Well while it is not officially striking, turning up to work saying I'm ready willing and able to work but not at the terms you (the company) want me to might as well be a strike to me.

Lol I'm just thinking if everyone in my company did that over having to eat a sandwich at our desk (which we do), taking a pay cut (which we did), working longer hours for no pay (which we do).

There is a bunch of workers out there who are only interested in filling in time rather than working.

    Relics of a bygone era.

Weed them out, and get on with it, or go to the wall.

    Them's the choices.

Looks like Herr Muller has copped on to that.

Saying they prefer to strike (or not officially striking as you say) rather than work is ludicrous, they are not being paid, some of them for nearly a week now.

Management should terminate the contracts of those refusing to work the new roster. It is ridiculous in this day and age to have scenes of this militant disgruntled minority trying to dictate what the company should do.

The airline industry is notoriously competitive and cut throat - management need to be assertive if AL is to survive. If they don't want to operate the roster, after fair warning, out they go. Lots other happy to take their place.

A few aren't and the rest are just happy to still have a job.
They are old and wise enough to know that in order for the airline to survive they have to roll with the punches.
And a few are currently job seeking.

You are such a negative person and thank god you are gone from ei..its people like you that give cabin crew a bad name..you probably hated the job so much because you actually have to have 'people skills'...and still here you are 6years on,not wanting to let go of the past..well guess what ..You are the past..I am the future and i will continue to look after my customers in years to come with reasonable terms and conditions of employment.

LOL. You are the gullible sheep being taken in by the union again and again!
Good luck with finally having to do some work for a change! I hope you finally realise what a holiday your job is.

But you can't look after your customers on the side lines standing outside of Dub Airport not getting paid.

Any remember anyone can be trained up in 4 weeks to do the job.

OK so assuming you have not been promoted you would have been offered the following salary scale for cabin crew in 2005:

    20,093.11 - 21,141.92 - 22,190.72 - 23,239.54 - 24,288.38 - 25,337.20 - 26,386.01 - 27,434.82 - 28,483.63 - 29,532.44 - 30,581.26 - 31,630.10 - 32,678.92 - 33,727.71 - 34,776.541 - 35,549.342 - 36,322.153 - 37,094.964 - 38,640.60 (LSI max)

So is this the scale you are earning presently? What other benefits do you get? I know obviously travel benefits for you and your family. Pension? Healthcare? Anything else?

Oh yes they can, and I do :-)

Pilots, crew, ground staff, trainers, airplanes.....all can be drafted in from elsewhere. You are not special in any way that the operations of an airline grounds to a halt if any of you are not there.

So your salary is approx 25k plus commission?

You have access to flights on Aer Lingus, ZED and ID90's on other airlines. Don't you think your lucky? You do realise Ryanair crew based at DUB earn likely half of that amount and have no pension, healthcare, ZED or ID90 tickets. Aer Lingus has been making a loss the past 2-3 years as you will know from working there. Don't you rather accept these new conditions rather than run the risk of the airline going bust and having no job and no perks?
