    My main factor is whether I think a horse can place or not and if it's value at those odds. 1.50 for 2pts place breaks even for that bet if the horse just places and does not win (bonus if it does win), normally if I make a selection with place odds of between 1.5-1.75 it's because I like its chances of winning.

    I don't do maidens ever and stay away from sellers (mostly). 12 runners is normally the most I deal with.
    After that it'll be how the horse has performed off the same mark in it's last couple of outings. I do not pick horses who have gone up in the ratings. Trainer form might get a quick glance aswell but I try not to over complicate my selection.

    I've probably been playing around now with horses for the last 2/3 years and I'm still always changing sth in my selection process as I know I still have alot to learn. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

    how they work, when are they altered, the effect an extra 3lbs has on a horse over a mile race.

    the going has to be one of the most crucial factors. With the changable weather how do you factor this in?

    importance of the jockey in your bets?

    what trends do you look for in previous races?

    how does a horse jumping class levels affect your bet?

    how much importance do you put on finishing times in previous races as that may have been a differently run race.

    This post just goes to show how much I still don't know to be honest. I think if I was ever to go full time (I wish :D ), I'd have to start exploring all the above and more.
