vbox inside vbox inside host os. small problem :(

    Since ye guys are big into vm machines,

    any solution on this problem?

    I have win 7 x64 ultimate on my desktop.

    I installed oracle virtualbox.

    i loaded win xp pro sp3 x86 into it.

    installed fine.

    then i installed virtualbox inside win xp.

    and then installed the same win xp os inside that virtualbox.

    its all running fine, except the mouse. its very jumpy around the screen :/

    scrub that.

    forgot the vbox add on for mouse smoothing.

    all working fine now.

    i also took my laptop, and i can establish an rdp connection to the xp pro in side the xp pro inside the win 7 installation, and the connection speed and response time are instant.

    god i love this.

    next step is to replicate everything on another computer and make a virtual lan with all 6 installations.

    hmm, I thought virtualisation inside virtualisation wasn't possible.

    your middle OS's would be very slow if most of they ram was given to their virtual os.

    Does 3D work in the inner most guest? :)

    im installing virtual box on the 3rd layer os at the moment, and im going to "try" to install jolicloud. its the lightest weight os i can think of.

    4 layers down? :p inception...

    ill test some 3d, but it will probably crash the entire lot :/

    i read a lot that nested virtualization is possible, but very few success stories.
    espically with windows.

    but hey.. its all running super smooth!

    ill throw a screen record up on youtube soon.

    actually, can someone suggest something to install on the nested OS so i can do some tests?

    first time ive used vmware.

    Openoffice? Can take a while to open on slower PCs.
    Firefox with a lot of tabs will suck up memory.

    I have an ESXi cluster running inside VMWare Workstation for study purposes.
    Works perfectly.

    A VM inside a VM inside a VM will run very slowly. This is explained perfectly in the movie inception. It's too complicated to respond to in a thread like this.

    heh i fixed the speed issue :p

    it runs as fast as a fresh install of xp on any computer now.
