So you think it's alright to go around and say derogatory things about women in the workplace.

They are employed by Sky and are treated as "professionals". If I were to slag women where I work, I'd be given the boot and I'm glad they're getting the boot for tonight's game.
Well personally I think the rules about 'slagging' are ridiculous. Making sexual remarks about a woman is wrong but I mean whats the difference between them having a laugh about a male and female linesperson? If they had laughed over a male linesman there would be nothing about it at all. So this is just rubbish imo. Its just the pc brigade baying for blood.

Funny when you think about that isn't it? The pc brigade are the ones that want people fired and harassed and drawn over the coals.

It wasn't having a laugh though. It was just 100% nasty from Keys.

I'd take Bradys bleating about Grays & Keys comments more seriously if she weren't writing about it in that paragon of feminist ideals The Sun, and hadn't made her career being the PA for notorious porn barons David 'Big Jugs' Gold & Sullivan.

If they slagged a male linesman there wouldn't be a problem, just like if they had just slagged her for making a bad decision there wouldn't be a problem. They slagged her because she was a woman, which isn't on. Both of them should be sacked

Their abilities as commentators/presenters, or lack thereof, doesn't come into it. If they have such narrow-mined opinions on gender then you'd have to wonder about any major broadcasting network that continues to employ them.

The only ignorance on show was from the Sky reporter asking Kenny about the offside decision, and what Kenny thought of it being made by a female linesperson. It was typical lowest common denominator stuff from Sky Sports as they tried to cater for their audience.

Kenny's answer was a humourous way of trying to shut that reporter up.

Ah you see I didn't know the full story, I was only going off what was posted, the statement is fine in the context it was used, didn't realise it was a reply to a question about the female linesman.

And lol @ bias, I have no problem with kenny dalglish, I actually think he's quite a likeable character.

Who bloody cares whether the officials are male or female once they are competent, that is the only thing that matters.

And, Karen Brady looks well decent in that picture at the end of the article in the OP.

Andy Gray and Richard Keys have been suspended from tonight's Bolton v Chelsea clash as the furore surrounding their sexist comments escalates.
Presenter Dave Jones and analyst Jamie Redknapp are expected to stand at the Reebok Stadium for the Monday Night Football regulars.
Sky are attempting to take the heat out of the controversy that has raged since their shocking comments about assistant referee Sian Massey before the Wolves v Liverpool match.
The pair are under increasing scrutiny after their shocking off-air comments aimed at Massey were made public.

Sky's football presenters ridiculed Massey's ability to understand the offside law before Liverpool's 3-0 win at Wolves on Saturday - even though they were the correct decisions.

Speaking to each other in the studio before the game, believing their microphones were off, Keys had said: 'Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her.'

Former Scotland striker Gray replied: 'Can you believe that? A female linesman. Women don't know the offside rule.' To which Keys said: 'Course they don't. I can guarantee you there will be a big one today. Kenny (Liverpool manager Dalglish) will go potty. This isn't the first time, is it? Didn't we have one before?'
Keys also launched an attack on West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady. He said: 'Did you hear charming Karren Brady complaining about sexism? Do me a favour, love.'
Brady has now revealed that the off-air remarks about both herself and Massey made her ‘blood boil’.
Brady told BBC 5live: ‘It makes my blood boil, if I'm absolutely honest. What really upsets me is the fact only females in our industry are judged by their gender. And that is categorically wrong.
'I'm genuinely disappointed. It never would have occurred to me that they had those views, whether public or private.

'It almost makes it worse that they're speaking when the microphones are not on as opposed to when they are on, because (they have) never really had the brass neck to say it publicly, they would only say it privately. I have heard it and I don't believe it is just banter.’.....................

I was watching Sky News with Adam Boulton and they had a ridiculous poll which asked viewers, quote:

    'Is football a man's game?'

57% said yes, 43% said no. This led to Boulton asking 'Does this indicate support out there for Richard and Andy'?

I thought that was a ridiculously misleading question. If they wanted to know if there was support out there for them then they should have asked whether the comments were OTT or not.

I'm glad they're off the match but I wish Sky bosses would stop closing ranks behind them.

I dont expect much to be done to eitehr Keys or Gray, they have been on Sky so long that I just dont think Sky have it in them to get rid of them.

She was a qualified assistant and of course she knows the rules, thats the obivious part, last thing football needs on top of racism is sexism, if more female officials come into the game, and its looking more and more likely, once they make the correct decisions and get them right then im all for it, they wouldnt be on the FA official's list if they werent up for the job.

Afaik or through what i've read the last couple days to be a linesman in the premier league you have to be a ref at Championship level, i only seen parts of the game but i can't even see what Gray and Keys are complaining about, as far as i could see she made a couple of very good calls.

That's the problem, they are not complaining one bit about her performance. They are stating that she doesn't understand the offside rule just because she's female. Sexist prejudice!

Ya, the main thing the we're taking the piss about was the fact that she was a woman and she couldnt understand offisde and that someone should explain it to her, as was said its just sexism and it seems to be the R. Keys starts it off and is the one with the problem with a woman official as he mentions this woman and her counter part from the past.

What im taking form it is hes sexist as it doesn't come across as banter or good nature ribbing.

We dont need sexism in the game if and when more female officials appear across any and all levels of football.

They made a broad generalisation. One that has been made a million times before. Anyone who'd be offended by that really needs some self-esteem counselling. There are way worse things on the TV every day, and way worse things at football games every day. Being offended is turning into a career for some people.

They were out of order, but only slightly so. The world is becoming a humourless, proportionless, precious place, and I for one am saddened. If certain elements in society get their way we will be a homogenized species, where everything said is scrutinised and tested for offensiveness.

To be fair it does they that they are being otherwise reprimanded but that these details will be kept private (obviously, all internal disciplinary action in any company is kept behind closed doors). Tonights match is just something for the public, I suspect their real punishments (wages, warnings etc) will be kept private.

Not defending the two but there joke/statement is nowhere near as tasteless as Rodney Marsh and his comment about the death of 0000's and even his was just a stupid joke gone wrong that a stand up comedian would have made.

If anyone has to go it shoudl be Keys, he starts it all from what we can hear in the audio, Gray just seems to be just agreeing.

Anywya, I just want Redknapp to be somehoe be placed in this situation too, maybe get rid of him :pac:

I speak for myself here, I'm not offended, but what they said was idiotic and wrong. It is 100% fair for any woman to be offended for it being implied (in a non-humorous manner) that they don't understand the offside rule for the sole reason that they are a woman.
There are way worse things on the TV every day, and way worse things at football games every day.
    Irrelevant.

They were well out of order, a personalised attack on women as a whole and Karen Brady. The world is not humourless, this exchange between Keyes and Gray just wasn't funny. Proportionless? Your post aptly fits that term.

That's an attack? Really? An attack?
    Attack:
    1. To set upon with violent force.
    2. To criticize strongly or in a hostile manner.
    3. To start work on with purpose and vigor: attack a problem.
    4. To begin to affect harmfully: a disease that attacks the central nervous system.
    v.intr.
To make an attack; launch an assault: The enemy attacked during the night.
    n.
    1. The act or an instance of attacking; an assault.
    2. An expression of strong criticism; hostile comment: vicious attacks in all the newspapers.
    3. Sports
    a. An offensive action in a sport or game.
    b. The players executing such an action.
    4.
    a. The initial movement in a task or undertaking: made an optimistic attack on the pile of paperwork.
    b. A method or procedure: Our attack on this project will have two phases.
    5. An episode or onset of a disease, especially an occurrence of a chronic disease: an asthma attack.
    6. The experience or beginning of a feeling, need, or desire: an attack of hunger; an attack of melancholy.
    .

None of the incident constitutes an attack, by any loose definition. I still maintain the entire episode is overkill, and that it patently suits some people to be "offended" by the least thing.

Understand I am not supporting what they said, but decrying the misplaced upset evidenced and the way something plainly not intended for public consumption has been presented as an affront.

Humourless? Who would find their comments funny, besides Sepp Blatter?

Freedom of expression is a wonderful thing and it's sad to see it being used to defend two stuck up old codgers acting like slack-jawed neanderthals.

It's bad enough that we have the President of FIFA acting like a clown sniggering over gay people watching the game, recommending that women players wear skimpy shorts and so on, without seeing broadcasters engaging in similar ignorant foolishness. If we want to have a game that people can be proud to support then we need to call people out on this kind of behaviour.

It's particularly galling when Sky ram commercials down people's throats about twenty years of quality service, or that advert with the kids playing football in the park while Keys, Gray and co. watch on. One of the kids playing was a girl as I recall. I suppose when the commercial finished Keys had to explain the offside rule to her while Gray perhaps tried to give her some advice on how to drive for when she gets older.

Actually from listening to the audio that's one of the most cutting remarks on it. Keyes tone is quite nasty throughout the whole thing. If it had been said in a humourous boyish way, i'd have less of a problem with it. But there really was an edge to it. And yes i'd view that comment as an attack by the definitions you have so thanksfully supplied for some bizzare reason.

I've no idea why you're introducing United fans into this but I don't condone disgusting chants from United fans whatsoever. Several times I've condemned the disgraceful chants that Arsene Wenger has had to endure for example, which are embarrassing to the club. Not all United fans are involved in such things as your last sentence implies.

not disputing the context of the chants but you can't compare the two scenarios. One is about a section of fans at a match the other are two well paid, extremely well known tv presenters, possibly the two best known pundits making sexist remarks in their workplace. Had that chat taken place in a pub while they were off the clock, fair enough, i wouldn't have liked hearing it but in their own time they can do what the want. It didn't.

It would be different if it was meant as a joke, bit cliched, but it's like Webb being a twelfth man for United type jokes.

The comments that she was guaranteed to make a mistake and King Kenny would be going mad on the touchline was the problem, it seems to be a cheap shot on her sex, nothing else.

There aren't any issues about her competence at all and I haven't heard any complaints about her so she has earned her right to officiate at the highest level.

As for the pc brigade type stuff, sometimes a stand has to be taken on an issue, racism is similar in that regard. I don't think it is pc gone mad to make a big deal about archaic attitudes like sexism and set an example.

I think this was worse though in fairness and he said it like he meant it. AFAIK he said Desailly was a lazy ni**er. Pretty bad stuff to be saying on air!

I agree that Ron had to go for his comments, but I don't believe he is really a racist. What he said is something he would probably have heard other black players say to one another - but he showed bad judgement by repeating it.

These two have crossed the line and should be sacked for this. Women are entitled to make a career in professional football if they choose -it's hard enough for them as it is without having to endure prejudice from very well-paid members of the football establishment.

Equally Giles's attempts to ridicule Gabby Logan after the England v Slovenia game in the World Cup, and Dunphy's anti-English prejudice after the same match should have resulted in similiar action. If Gray and Keys had made anti-Irish comments many of us would now be demanding that they be sacked.

Why is it that the pc brigade are always baying for blood when somebody says something they don't like?

Can't find a link but they're showing it on Sky News over and over again. I checked the website and there's no video of it.
    I'll try find it.

Don't know why I like his commentator, probably just the nostalgia really.

This isn't it but this is something from before, seems like they've got form about this kind of thing.

If anyone is near a TV turn on Sky News, it'll be coming on the tv again soon.
It starts off with a Sky guy saying to Andy Gray there is a female linesman today and someone said she is a bit of a looker, then Andy goes on a bit of a rant.

You don't think Atkinson should have been fired for calling Desailly a lazy Ni**er?

But you think these two clowns should be sacked for making a joke about a woman not knowing the offside rule?

    LOL.

I agree that I don't think he really is racist. He signed a fair few black players in his day anyway. When people give out about people this way they always say things like that. If a player had crazy hair it would have been about the hair for example.

    Form? Are you for real?

The 2nd goal for both teams in that clip are absolutely hilarious and they have every right to be laughing. If it was a men's game they'd be laughing too. As much as I dislike Keys and Gray, It will be an absolute farce if they lose their job over that clip on the Daily Mail website.
