Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

RTEwicklow: Donnelly camp looking very happy and very confident ahead of final results announcement. Brady's people much less so. #wk

Tallies have Donnelly (Ind) now ahead of Brady (SF) by 127, Doyle's (FG) surplus should then extend this lead

They didn't distribute them in the last count because they would not push the last candidate above the 2nd last. They'll save them for next count.

Basically they distribute Fitzgeralds votes first as it's enough to elect people if it went the right way. If after that, the difference between the last 2 electable people (Donnelly and Brady) is less than Doyles surplus, they'll distribute Doyle's as it has the potential to change the result if they went entirely in one direction.

so in other words its just a formality to distrubute those votes unless they all go to one person, or is tiredness getting to me and my brain has given up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

    Laois Offaly is in.

It not just 240 Papers they have to Look At
I think they have to Look at all of Doyles 10035 First Pref .. Votes --and see what the Next or next or next Pref is --is that Correct ???
    How does PR Work

do they not just randomly pick 240 of Doyle's votes and then distribute them?

    How does PR Work

AFAIK, they won't look at all of Doyle's votes but a random sample of them and then apportion the percentages out from them and distribute votes.

In interests of fairness they should look at every vote and record the preferences but that takes too long, so random samples is what they use.

    18th count now in

    Brady +42
    Donnelly +37

    Brady 9839
    Donnelly 9946

    Timmons surplus to be distributed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

This should only take 15min, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,546 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Is this all we are waiting on now?

Have Fitzgerald's votes, who was the last eliminated candidate been transferred?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 worsel

Dont think its looking too good for J Brady -- although he picked up 10.1& FP votes and with Donnely on 9.3% FP... cant see Brady picking up !! - Unlickely that a FG vote will go to SF ?

From what I can tell we are only distributing the surpluses of the FG candidates who are exceeding the quota. FitzG's have already been distributed.

    After count 18

    John Brady (SF) 9839 (+42)
    Stephen Donnelly (Ind) 9946 (+37)
    Anne Ferris (Lab) 11042 (+94)
    Simon Harris (FG) 11459 (+67)

Billy Timmins' surplus of 116 votes now being distributed

so nobody (by my reckoning) can reach quota even if they get all the surplus votes..so will she call it then?

Yep, defo, Harris and Ferris will be elected without reaching quota as will one from Brady and Donnelly, then tomorrow will be a recount from 13th count and then there will be Dick Roche's court challenge when he arrives tomorrow with George Bush's lawyers!
