I wouldnt rule liverpool out just yet. Mathematically its still there. What if we lose to Westham, Man Cty beat Chelsea and liverpool when their correponding fixture, then they are only 9 points outside the top four with 10 games to go....

Its 4 teams competing for 2 CL place not just 4th place. It would have to be some run though.. they probably need 28-29 points from their remaining 33 available.

Are you lot crazy? There manager seems to think they’ve a case for fourth, he’s a deluded nikampoop. From The Independent..

Rodgers has mastered the looking confident bit but it remains to be seen if he can produce a successful side. He has tried to make it seem an irrelevance. When Swansea played in Sunderland last year, Rodgers talked about the game in language that is now familiar.

"It is great for the public here at Sunderland to see us," he said after the game. "They must have been wondering what this team everyone is talking about are all about and now they have seen. We were wonderful. Our intention is always to pass teams to a standstill, but give credit to Sunderland, they defended ever so well when other teams might have wilted." Sunderland had just beaten Swansea 2-0.

Yeh, it's fair to say that Liverpool are completely out of the race for CL football.

In my eyes 3rd and 4th are there for the picking for Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and ourselves. And in saying that I fully expect Everton to drop out of contention in the next 6/7 games.

Either ourselves or Arsenal will hit form and nab a spot, I just hope it's us. There is a huge psychological advantage riding on the 6-pointer between ourselves and the goons at WHL.

Completely out of it? Yes, Mathematically out of it? Certainly not.

Just ask the United fans who thought City couldnt catch them last season.

On current form they will be out of it within the next 2-3 games thats for sure.

If people are still worried about Liverpool its time to give up on it, should be looking at the 2 teams above us and looking to catch them not teams who are 12 points behind.

I'm worried, cant sleep at night. I had a nightmare about Brendan Rodgers last night.

Every so often I drift off in work and start thinking about Swansea and West brom too, then my chest gets tight and my arm starts to hurt.

Spurs will be the death of me'!

So, what would be a good result for us tonight in the Arsenal v Bayern Munich game?*

*Injury to Wilshere, Walcott & Carzola aside...

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,713 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

A win, that's what. The further they go, the more games they have, the more distracted they will be from the EPL.

Unless of course they got to the final and finished outside the top 4.

They couldn't, could they? Could they?

*Grabs random stranger walking past and shakes him vigorously* Could they?

Yeah you're probably right but with progress comes momentum and that could be ****e for us too!
Koscielny didnt train yesterday with Arsenal with a calf injury, Gibbs is injured and Monreal is cup tied. Arsenal's back line tonight could be Vermaelen on the left Sagna in the middle with Mertesacker and Jenkinson right back, goals their for Bayern.

Taken from the Gambling forum, there is every chance Arsenal will get mullered.

True, a couple of big wins in the this round/next round could catapult them into a good run but they are serious jackal and hyde stuff these days.

I actually think that was the perfect result. The players look completely dejected and miserable. This could be the start of a bigger slump which could see them finish below Liverpool.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,713 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

Terrible performance by them bar 1 or 2 players. Thats there CL campaign over. It'll be interesting to see how they bounce back, which I'm sure they will do but hopefully not before they drop a few more EPL points. They will finish strongly though so we have to take advantage of their slump.

Hopefully this has a massive negative effect on their season and doesn't act as a galvanizing game bringing the team together like we were last season when they came back to win.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭slegs

We need to make sure we don't lose to them.

The thing us Spurs fans should have taken from last night was nothing to do with the Goons rather the performance of Moutinho for Porto. He was simply world class last night, contolled the game from midfield.

To say we missed out in August is putting it mildly...Still we got Clint Dempsey instead I suppose.

He's AVB's man, I would be shocked if we don't sign him in the summer. They would never let him go mid-season, especially whilst still in the CL.

Moutinho ain't out of contract in the summer;)

I'll eat my hat if we sign him. He is AVB's man and Im sure we came close to signing him last time but DL just isn't going to spend 20M+ on a player like that. So unless his price drops significantly I cant see it happening - which is a shame as he would be awesome.

100% agree. To be fair, we're fairly well covered in CM at the moment, although we'd obviously prefer Sandro back. With Mouts, he'd have to take either Sandro or Dembele's place, or be stand-in for Sandro, but for that money he'd have to be starting.

Unless he can play further up the field?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

Two midfielders does not a good team/squad make. I'd be amazed if we weren't back in for him in the summer, AVB will have him top of his list especially if we get CL. We spent £15m on Dembele so I don't see why we wouldn't spend £20m on a proven CL player..

Look at our next few fixtures - West Ham, Arsenal, Liverpool and two games v Inter squeezed in . Exciting times for Spurs. The next few weeks will go a long way to determining the success of our season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

We have to come out of the next there with 5/6 points. if we do that and don't loose to Arsenal I'd fancy us,

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

I still think that if we can win 7 games and get two draws, and not lose to Arsenal, we'll have 4th and maybe 3rd. That'll be 70 points, which would be a great return.

I think this article summarises our current form fantastically well.

You probably don't agree but I'd use Livermore more than we are. Have him sit in front of the back four and let dembele push on a little, I'd actually start livermore on Monday night. We ain't gonna get away with parker dembele for the rest of the season lads without some sort of rotation.

I agree with some points in the article but Dembele has been playing as the deeping of the 2. To me its a straightforward swap of parker and dembele thats needed.

But we do have options with livermore or holtby so im not too worried about it as long as AVB realises the current pairing is just not working out
