Hi, im interested in registering a domain, but im wondering why a .ie address costs €19.99 while a .com address costs €4.99?

and finally why does it cost more than double to take a domain for 2 years?

    1 year domain is €19.99
    while 2 years is €45.90

    any response would be great!

    cheers.

The cost of the .ie domain is set by the IEDR. Blacknight then have to charge that onto the customer, with the appropriate profit margin.

Blacknight have to pay a lot more for a .ie domain than a .com domain, hence why the customer has to pay more.

The 1 year/2 year things look like a slight oversight.

€19.99 is a current special offer for the .ie domain, which has a usual price of €25/year. So ordinarily €45 for two years would represent a saving of €5.

The .ie registry is much more manual than .com, so it costs us a lot more to process a .ie domain name than it does to process a .com. This is both in terms of the wholesale price we pay for the domain name, as well as the overheads associated with processing the order.

At present we are running a special discount on the 1st year's registration
