Stacked card mate looks very good I seen a few fighters on your card are on battlezone card aswel is it not bit risky having fighters on a card that are fighting 14 days before incase of late pullout from injuries on the other show.

I'm not sure how to rip a facebook video off for a link.

    http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001151398223

There's a video there for the venue three posts down. It held a white collar boxing night on saturday and had over 1300 people there. It's a new sports complex built in Dundalk and the lay out of it is almost perfect for fight nights.

    excited now :D

This is a serious venue, a lot of potential for this show to grow and make it it's own. Looking forward to it tonight and I'll be up there before the show starts. Will take some pics of the set up.

The local club here in Dundalk FightPit MMA have a cage in the club. The venue is about a 10 minute walk from the club so the cage was never put back up after the rumble in rush event and was brought up to the venue.

I’m sitting here at my desk recovering from a spectacular crash. Friday night i attended one of my friends 18th and didn’t get to sleep until half 5, was up at 9:30 the next morning in anticipation for BJJ training only to find out it was cancelled as prep was going on for last night’s event. I am the type that, when i am awake and up i cannot go back to sleep. So naturally with UFC on last night, two very strong cups of black coffee and a:”Revive” (Barocca esque, apparently not supposed to be mixed with Mi Wadi) I was lying in bed at 6am post UFC and small run around the streets and suddenly i was very aware of my heart beating in my chest, the birds outside were getting louder and i can only assume that’s what it’s like to be on ecstasy.

Yet before all of this, Oriel Park Sports Centre provided the evening’s entertainment. While waiting for the fights to start i worked the row across from me had 26 Seats per row with 6 rows. I would speculate by the start of the first fight with everyone in their seats there was around 500-600 there as more were milling about the place. I’ll wait for official figures before i speculate any further but it was such a close set up. There wasn’t a bad seat in the place ( I didn’t take the allocated seat cage side i sat with my friend at the back of the bleacher to see what it was like, by the way we have a new MMA fan after last night ! )

Started off with two K1 bouts, K1 is not my forte at all however the much smaller Fabio Vito did well to hold off Craig Bowels. While Colm Neill ensured my friend Bryan would be watching with anticipation for the rest of the night as he landed a stunning right hand 14 seconds into the first round Vs. Andrius Daskus scored the KO victory.

We then moved onto the first teenage bout of the evening as Chris Mulligan took on Robert Morrison. I’ve trained with Chris and his stand up is very crisp as he has trained in boxing for years. You could see this in the early exchanges as he picked his shots before being tied up for under hooks. Even from there he was landing some nice stomach shots but Robert attempted a guillotine on the ground which he couldn’t finish. He was setting up a triangle yet Chris has worked diligently on his triangle defence in training over the past few weeks yet he was caught with a nicely transitioned arm bar.

Second of the teenage bouts took place as David Ziggy fought Luke Caffery. This was something to admire, first of all Luke took this fight on ONE days notice. David is 16 and is 3-0, a very scary guy, very strong with great stand up and a good ground game. Luke is 14 and i was told after by Paul Cowzer has only been boxing a year; he has won 8 out of 9 fights in boxing and beat an all Ireland champion. Luke rocked David early in the first prompting David to shoot and pull guard. David showed his size advantage on the ground as he swept Luke and attempted a choke before flipping him and trying again for a choke, this time for a N/S, just as the round was ending. Round 2 Luke kept his distance with Kicks, the most impressive part of it all was his stance and footwork. Completely straight back and phenomenal foot work. He was bouncing around the ring and the quickness of his hands made David was really waiting for a chance to explode which never really game for him, the second round ended same as the first with Luke fighting off a choke after he attempted the take down. Round 3 was touch and go, David landed a nice combo ending in a head kick which prompted a massive smile from Luke. Luke was tagged in the next exchange but tried a head kick of his own. I personally had David winning Rd3 but the judges saw fit for Luke to take it by UD. This kid is ridiculous talent and i cannot wait to see his next fight.

With all due respect to Fight Pit promotions there was 3 OLD C Class fights and while some fighters may feel better competing under these rules. The crowd was very restless for the bout between Colm Louge and Ikatlyar Asnatynnayev. Ikatlyar won by Unanimous Decision, i won’t even write about it because it was bore fight. Fighters get dropped into mount and do NOTHING to escape because they can’t get head shotted. This was a horrible match up and i will not be rushing out to see either of these guys in the near future.
The same however, can’t be said for Darragh Hart, who fought Lewis Thompson. Darragh knew he couldn’t use headshots on the ground so he did it standing up. He totally lit up Lewis in the stand up before dropping him into mount and performed a slick arm bar.

Benny Fagan was up against Chris Mc Alonon next, I was pulling for Benny in this fight no doubt as he like me is a fan of BJJ. Round 1 i felt they were equal in the stand up. Benny has a guillotine choke in very tight after his first takedown. He secured another one to close off the round. Chris was landing knees to Benny’s midsection but Benny did control him a lot on the cage and on the ground.

Round 2 saw Benny again control the under hooks but towards the middle of the round Chris secured a Muay Thai clinch before landing 3 crisp knees to Benny who simply slouched after the third one. It was quite disappointing as i felt Benny had just gassed that little bit early; he gave a very good account of himself for his first fight there is no denying it, one final thing i would say Benny fought at 80KG. It was a massive cut for him and i think if he stays at this weight his next fight will be a lot better.

Blaine O’Driscoll vs. Dylan Sheean in the new C Class rules next. I would like to congratulate Blaine on a nice Arm bar victory in rd 1. However Dylan claimed he never tapped, first of all i was in the back seats and it even looked like he tapped. Even if he didn’t he should be thankful the ref thought he did. Simply because Blaine was going to take his arm home with him otherwise.
Henry Flanagan vs. Dean Knight next, Henry controlled the stand up well, kept it to his own tempo before securing the mount. He ended up winning with a Rear Naked Choke after Dead gave up his back with a mount escape.
Entertaining fight up next as Konrad Iwanowski took on Dennis Perry. Konrad scored a big takedown early one but Dennis got back to his feet well. Konrad took it down again almost at leisure and controlled it before landing strikes to see off the round. Round 2 started and Dennis landed some great strikes and showed good clinch work at the cage, He took Konrad down and he showed very good guillotine defence as Konrad was working hard for it. He swept Dennis before putting him in a crucifix position and hammered home with the unanswered shots, good fight but Rd 2 Stoppage for Konrad.

Rafal Dziudziela Vs Damian Dowling was up next. Rafal landed two very nice head kicks in the opening exchanges before seemingly taking him down with ease and if you will excuse my language here. I’m looking at my results sheet from last night as Fight Hounds competition winner Ciaran Taaffe was sitting next to me. He has written that Rafal won via “****ebag Choke” he later explained it seemed that Damian just didn’t want to try get out of it.
Neil Ward fought Joe Roche in a fight that was over fairly quickly. Neil secured the takedown and exploded on top from the mount position. It was a mixture of mount and back after that and Neil finished off via TKO. Can i just say i don’t think fighters should be allowed wear the exact same shorts! That confused me big time!

Joe Fray took on Dundalk’s own Phillip O’Rourke next. Maybe it was a case of not being ready for a C Class fight but this fight was probably one of the easiest Joe will have. He took Phillip down with a beautiful Judo throw early on and went straight to mount. Phillip blocked some shots on the ground but made ZERO attempts what so ever to either escape the mount or grab an overhook to stifle shots. He did try the most unreliable mount escape of throwing your feet up and trying to lock in the arms. Joe brushed it off with ease before landing give or takes 10 shots. Roy Nelson rose to fame through the crucifix with soft unanswered shots. These were comparable to soft unanswered shots but when you are making NO attempt to escape the mount at all then you don’t deserve that extra time the ref usually gives. Phillip complained the fight was stopped early before hitting his corner very hard. Ciaran then quipped: “Had he hit the other fella that hard during the fight he probably wouldn’t be in that position “. Disappointing display in that fight, perhaps a little more focus on mount escapes is needed as headshots are now legal in C Class fights.

Co-Main event of the night next as Vilmars “The Animal” Erenbergs took on Stephen Rice. I enjoyed Vilmars fight last week immensely and he didn’t disappoint last night either. His leg kicks were as usual, superb. He stuffed a very strong takedown from Stephen also to do well. It went to the ground and was a good battle, Vilmars manipulated him on the ground and transitioned to an Arm bar to finish the fight, and Stephen was unlucky and just was caught in the sub.

Onto the main event which Bryan beside me recorded and i will upload later. David Blaszke took on Viktoras Kontrimas. I would rather post the video than speak about it as i think i won’t do it justice. The crowd was electric for this bout, Viktor won after a hard decision.
Overall, great set up, close to full capacity if not fully capacity. Few guys over their depths in terms of the classes they were competing at but this is the learning curve of MMA.

SDTimeout I don't mean to knock your journalism talents or martial arts background but I also attended last nights event and find some of your report brutal.

When you find the balls to enter a cage and fight maybe then you will be better equipped to report instead of putting some fighters down.

Fair enough old c class is not to everybody's liking but it gives young lads there first taste of fighting and sets a base for them for the future.

The ****ebag choke was actually a scorpion crunch, which can break ribs.

You obviously have no clue what you are talking about.

I personally cannot wait for your next piece of journalistic brilliance, that is of course if your mother allows you attend the next mma event.

If you like this you should read the report on the last Cage Contender. Very one sided against some people too.

Great show last nite and some very good fights on the card. Firstly well done to all involved in running the show as I think there's potential of this being one of the better shows!! Have to applaude Colm Neill with KO in his K1 fight, what a head kick!!!! As biased as I am my teammates in Rush had 3 out of 3 wins and they all looked great. The main event was another very tough fight and close too. All in all thiswas a great nite out and I'm looking forward to the next one.

That's perfectly fine with me, I am 18 years old and just love MMA and BJJ , critisism from people is what will help me improve even if it is hateful as opposed to constructive.

I have no interest in competing in MMA only BJJ competitions. I don't see why anyone who attends an event, pays to be there or is covering the event can not pass comment on fights or peoples ability. Some of the best MMA writers in the US have never trained ?

No, it doesn't. It holds fighters back, there is the MMA league, there is IN house events for old C class rules. We have agreed to move on with a unified rule set. If 10 people who knew nothing about MMA went to that show last night and saw in particular a C Class fight with offered nothing ( Since you read my report you know the fight I'm talking about ) a lot of them wouldn't waste their time going to another event.

"The ****ebag Choke" was actually a tongue in cheek comment from my friend who only has an interest in boxing. If you had of looked at the results i posted above i wrote Scorpion Choke. Which i hope you will excuse the typo as the memo i have typed on my phone is " Scorpion Move(Crunch?) someone has been brushing up on their submissions 101 subscriptions "

That's for you to decide i suppose, perhaps you have a little bit of hate towards me because i slagged off you, your friend, a clubmate. I'm fine with that, I don't think any of the SBG lads came on here after i said they rely on their ground games because it seemed one or two of them couldn't take a punch ?

It's always nice to have a fan, sadly i couldn't attend RUSH as my mother didn't allow me to go. I had no set route home, i suppose she was right as i was stuck in Dublin after Cage Contenders.
